Assalamualaikum and a very good morning to the chairperson, wise judges, fellow
oppositions, worthy opponents and last but not least, members of the virtual room. My role
as the third speaker is to rebut all the points given by the government, to stick with our
stand, and that is allowances should not be given to unemployed Malaysian Citizens as it
can contribute more harm than good.
Since your experience and “hard skills” might match closely with another
applicant’s, your soft skills could win you the job. Businesses today
prioritize soft skills more than ever. They look for candidates who are
dependable, curious, positive, flexible, and effective communicators who
work well under pressure, to name a few top characteristics.
“It’s important to highlight soft skills that can give employers an idea of
how quickly you can adapt and solve problems, whether you can be relied
on to follow through and how effectively you can lead and motivate
others,” said Rosemary Haefner, chief people officer at SPINS and the
former chief human resources officer at CareerBuilder.
Your motivation may be just to impress your boss, but as time goes on,
your dedication and efforts will grow to become habits and make your
career success even more certain. Showing up to work early and taking
initiative might seem like “sucking up” to your boss to other employees
and to you yourself, but actually, when you think about it, there is
nothing wrong with these actions. On the contrary, they showcase you as
a well-educated and ambitious man/woman.
Another danger is that if you start to focus too much on getting a new
job, you may not be giving your full attention to your current employer,
says Teri Hockett, the chief executive of What’s For Work?, a career site
for women. “You’ll not only be impacting your company, but your own
professional credibility. You may no longer be considered for prime
assignments and projects, and this can hurt you in a multitude of ways
from your confidence level to your networking capabilities when you
need them at an all-time high.”
A skill set is a collection of skills and abilities. Each person has a different
skill set depending on their interests, natural abilities, personal qualities
and technical skills. Skills can expand your professional competency and
allow you to perform your job well. You can gain and improve skills with
education and experience. The more advanced you are in performing
certain skills, the more likely you are to get or progress in a job.
One considerable difference between hard skills and soft skills during the
hiring process is that you can list and verify hard skills, while soft skills are
typically displayed during in-person interviews. If certain soft skills are
relevant and required for a certain job, you might consider listing these
on your resume alongside your technical skills.
If you are missing a certain skill for the job you want, you can still apply,
but do not list it on your resume if you do not have it. You also have the
option to list a beginner proficiency level if you are still learning.
You also have the option to seek training during the hiring process or the
employer might be willing to offer on-the-job training. This is especially
true if you also demonstrate excitement about the position and an
eagerness to learn, giving the employer confidence that you can develop
the skill you are missing quickly.
Ladies and gentlement, with those rebuttals, I hope you have seen the light to reject
the government’s plan for today. Allowances should not be given to unemployed Malaysian
as they have known to provide harm and therefore we must not recognise it as something
beneficial to the nation. Again, our case for today is allowances should not be given to
unemployed Malaysian Citizens as it can contribute more harm than good. Thank you.
