Topic: The Fall of Troy
1. Why did the Greeks declare war against the Trojans?
Based on what I’ve read, According to the ancient Greek epic poet Homer, the
Greeks declare war against the Trojans, when prince of Troy, Paris, had convinced
Queen Helen, wife of the Greek king Menelaus, to elope with him and went off together
to Troy. . The Greeks thus wanted to avenge this disgrace to their honor and pride. To
get her back, Menelaus sought help from his brother Agamemnon, who assembled a
Greek army to defeat Troy.
Another myth attributes the origin of the Trojan War to a quarrel between the
goddesses Athena, Aphrodite, and Hera over who among them was the fairest. After
Paris chose Aphrodite, Athena and Hera plotted against Troy.
2. Who was the leader of the Greek army?
- Agamemnon was the leader of the Greek forces in the Trojan War. He was the
brother-in-law of Helen of Troy. Agamemnon was married to Clytemnestra, the sister of
Menelaus' wife, Helen of Troy.
For ten years, innumerable Greeks and Trojan soldiers fought the battle every
day. However, in the tenth year, the city of Troy was captured by the Greeks, not by
war, but by a clever trick. Odysseus, a Greek architecture and warrior created a plan to
take over troy by making a great wooden horse, which could fit in many Greek soldiers.
At night the Greek warriors get sail for an island nearby, where they could hide. And I
think this is the start of the exciting part of the story. Because the Trojans appear to be
close to win the war in the first scene of the "Troy" movie adaption, it appears that there
will be a big plot twist between the protagonist and the antagonist.
The Greeks had fled the battlefield by the time the Trojan warriors arrived the
following morning, and all that was left at the coast was a huge wooden horse. They
forced the Greek soldier, who was tied beneath the horse, to tell them what had
occurred. He falsely claimed that the Greeks wanted to return home because they were
tired of the long war and the huge wooden horse is a piece offering. In order to have a
peaceful voyage back home, they had make the horse as an offering to the god of the
sea. When questioned why the horse was so large, he responded that it would only
benefit the Greeks if it remained outside of Troy, which is why it was so big In order to
prevent it from being dragged into the city. The Trojans planned to break a part of the
city wall down and pull the horse inside in order to condemn the Greeks. Despite the
warning of their priest, they dragged the horse inside the city.
That night they rejoiced in their victory and almost everybody got drunk. In the
middle of the night, the Greeks who had sailed to a nearby island, came back. The
Greek soldiers who was left behind gave a signal and wooden horse were opened from
the side. They opened the city Gates and the entire Greek army entered the city of Troy
in the silence of the night. What followed afterwards was terror and cruelty beyond
imagination. The old man and epic city of Troy was burnt to the grounds. Its soldiers,
warriors, and Kings were killed mercilessly. Towards the end of King of Troy, King
Priam and Prince Paris were also killed. The wife, mother and sister of hector were
taken as slaves and Helen was returned back to king Menelaus. This marked was
returned back to king Menelaus. This marked the tragic end of the great City of Troy.

Other version:
Eris (goddess of discord) crashed the wedding of Thetis and Pelleus because she
wasn't invited. She rolled a golden apple inscribed with something like "to the most
beautiful goddess." into the crowd of gods and goddesses. Athena, Hera, and Aphrodite
wanted the apple. They asked Zeus to decide who could have the apple, therefore
being the most beautiful.
But he said, "Hell no! Let a mortal decide."
So it was that Paris, a Prince of Troy, was chosen. Hera offered him political power,
Athena offered him military glory, Aphrodite offered him the hand of the most beautiful
woman. Being a guy, Paris chose Aphrodite's deal and gave her the apple. But he didn't
cash in on his deal just then.
It was only when Paris met Helen (and although it's unsure whether Paris wooed Helen
and brought her to Troy, or he snatched her unwilling, Helen ended up in Troy.) did he
take up the deal. Helen was King Menelaus's wife, a Greek king of Sparta and brother
to Agamemnon (the most powerful king in Greece).
Rightfully, Menelaus' was mad that his wife was stolen; he goes to his brother
Agamemnon. "Let's wage war!"
SOO the Greeks sail over and fight with the Trojans for 10 years. The Trojan walls are
impenetrable. The Greeks decide to let it be known they are leaving, when they are in
actuality sailing to a nearby island. They leave a large wooden horse, which the Trojans
accept as a token of victory. Everyone's heard the story of how the horse is hollow and
Greek soldiers, including Odysseus await inside.
The soldiers spring when they're least expecting it, and open the gates to Troy, letting in
the rest of their army that has arrived back on Troy's shore.
We all know that the story of the tragic fall of the city Troy, written in the Iliad. The story
was about love, honor, and the pursuit of glory. It was started when Eris (goddess of
discord) crashed the wedding of Thetis and Pelleus because she wasn't invited.
