PROJECT PROPOSAL (
Since the creation of the material, the volume of plastic garbage has grown at an
alarming rate, posing a global environmental threat. This problem is more evident in the
Philippines, which, according to Our World in Data, produces more than one-third of the
world's oceanic plastic debris from its 114 million inhabitants spread across 7,641
islands. Indeed the Philippines is considered the third-largest contributor to plastic
waste wordwide. In fact, 70% of Filipino population have lack access to disposal
facilities and sanitary landfills, which is one of the main causes of plastic pollution in the
nation, according to a study of waste management practices in the area and Czarna
Constaine, who leads the world wide fund for nature's global campaign in the
Philippines to stop the flow of plastic into nature by 2030.
According to the article form sea circular, the Philippines' plastic market is worth more
than 1283.71 million US dollars (2016) and is expected to expand at a compound yearly
growth rate of 6.11% between 2018 and 2023. About 48% of plastic is used for
packaging as of 2017, and packaging waste is the main source of marine litter and
plastic pollution.
In order to conserve the environment, the government had focused on a lot of projects
about recycling, yet not all bins are actually recycled as they should be. As a result, the
nation's waterways and land are still filled with plastic debris. We Filipinos who
contributes to this environmental pollution should do something to solve this issue. Do
you think recycling is enough to lessen the pollution due to excessive use of plastics? or
there are more alternative ways to manage this environmental problem?
PROJECT OBJECTIVES
This project has been proposed to achieve the following objectives:
OBJECTIVE 1: Find ways to reduce the use of plastics in San Jose National Highschool
OBJECTIVE 2: Advocate the use of alternatives instead of using plastics
OBJECTIVE 3: Launch a successful program in regards of reducing the usage of
plastics.
OBJECTIVES 4: Focus on recycling in collecting materials to be used as an additional
alternative for plastics
BENEFITS
There are several good reasons not to use plastic bags. To improve our environment
and prevent it from deteriorating, we must cease using them. To quit using plastic bags,
there are a number of eco-friendly substitutes that may be employed.
Although initially, it could be challenging, avoiding plastic bags is something that must
be done for the greater good. Each of us needs to step up in order to put this
prohibition into reality and make it effective. Because it minimizes pollution and lowers
the need for fossil fuel use, reducing the use of plastic is crucial for conserving energy
and natural resources. Additionally, it lowers greenhouse gas emissions, which play a
role in climate change.
By minimizing your use of throwaway plastic, you're also lowering the demand for it,
which makes it less likely that whoever you buy it from will continue to produce it. One
of the easiest ways to encourage big businesses in our capitalist system to produce less
plastic is to stop purchasing their plastic goods. Therefore, more recycling equals less
carbon dioxide. Less plastic use saves wildlife. Animals can become entangled in
plastic debris such as bags, nets, and bands without having the ability or knowledge to
free themselves. This problem extends beyond consumption.
Less plastic consumption can save humans. Have you ever considered cooking a
plastic grocery bag and eating it with some delicious dauphinoise potatoes? No, not us.
We nevertheless end up eating plastic as it decomposes in the environment to produce
microplastics. Research published in the journal Environmental Science and
Technology suggests that each of us may consume 39,000 to 74,000 microplastic
particles annually. Our water is cleaner when there is less plastic. Plastic typically ends
up in landfills rather than the ocean. Using less plastic also makes food safer. The
majority of our food is grown in soil and water, and when more plastic chemicals
contaminate the soil and water supply, they eventually end up in our food. Additionally,
safer air comes from less plastic. Plastic also taints the air we breathe, as if
contaminating our food, drink, and environment wasn't enough.
The school will conduct a program to futher inform the youth regarding this matter. It
would help them to be informed and knowledgeable about the things that plastic bags
can do to us. The program will also be suggesting eco-friendly alternatives that can be
use to lessen plastic bag usage. Moreover, the program will also serve as a reminder
that the students can help the environment by simply using less plastics.
Methodology:
1. Research and Data Collection:
- Form a research team comprising environmentally conscious students and faculty
members.
- Conduct research on the harmful effects of plastic usage and compile relevant data
and statistics.
2. Awareness Campaign:
- Organize educational presentations by experts on environmental sustainability and
plastic pollution.
- Deliver presentations during school assemblies, club meetings, and subject-specific
classes.
- Topics covered: lifecycle of plastic, environmental consequences, and sustainable
alternatives.
3. Guest Speakers:
- Invite guest speakers from environmental organizations, NGOs, or local authorities.
- Share real-life examples, success stories, and strategies for reducing plastic usage.
- Aim to inspire and motivate the community to take action.
4. Posters and Visual Displays:
- Collaborate with the Art Club to create eye-catching posters and infographics.
- Display them strategically around the school to raise awareness about plastic
pollution.
- Provide practical tips for reducing plastic consumption.
5. Social Media Campaign:
- Launch a social media campaign to reach a broader audience.
- Create engaging posts, videos, and challenges to promote awareness and inspire
action.
- Encourage students, staff, and community members to share their commitment to
reducing plastic usage.
6. Collaboration with Local Businesses:
- Engage local businesses, such as supermarkets and restaurants, in eco-friendly
practices.
- Incentivize the use of reusable bags and promote biodegradable packaging.
- Organize plastic-free events in partnership with local establishments.
7. Recycling Initiatives and Waste Management:
- Work with the school administration to enhance recycling initiatives and waste
management.
- Conduct workshops on proper waste segregation.
- Install additional recycling bins and organize waste collection drives.
8. Evaluation and Follow-up:
- Regularly evaluate the program's effectiveness through feedback from participants.
- Use feedback to refine strategies and ensure the program's success and sustainability.
SCHEDULE:
The schedule of this program is on July 3, 2023, Monday. It will start at 9:00 am to
11:00 am at San Jose National High School Covered Court.
Budget:
In doing this program there will be a budget needed. Sound system (Sound Tower MX-
T40) will cost ₱9,449.00 while the estimated value for chairs is ₱1,500.00 for designs
will cost ₱1,000.00 The total of all the expenses or the budget needed will be
₱11,949.00.
