SECTION: ____________________

LESSON 1
Let Us Practice

Write down the signs and causes of the following conditions that might happen possibly
during the participation of moderate to vigorous recreational activity or any other
physical activity.

Signs/Symptoms Causes
Dehydration 1. Headaches 1. Heat exposure
2. Dry or cracked lips 2. High fever
Overexertion 3. Dizziness 3. Repetitive Movements
4. Feeling faint 4. Sudden Body Movements
5. Thirst 5. Prolonged Activity
Hypothermia 6. Shivering 6. Cold exposure
7. Confusion and memory loss 7. Medical condition
8. A slow, weak pulse 8. Medical condition
Hyperthermia 9. Heat cramps 9. Physical exertion
10. Heat stoke 10. Doing recreational activity in
a warm or humid environment

Let Us Assess

List down the safety protocol to avoid dehydration, overexertion, hypothermia and
hyperthermia during moderate to vigorous recreational activity/physical activity
participation.

Dehydration
1. Drink a cup of water about 4 hours before you exercise.
2. Have another half-cup of water every 10 to 15 minutes while you’re exercising.
3. Drink water after you’re done. If your body is producing plenty of light colored urine,
that’s a good sign.
Overexertion
4. Rest after repetitive or strenuous activities.
5. Stretch and warm up your muscles before doing an activity.
6. Take breaks every 30 minutes, especially if you usually stay in the same position for
many hours.
Hypothermia
7. Get out of the cold, wind, rain, or snow if possible.
8. Drink fluids.
Hyperthermia
9. Take frequent breaks.
10. Drink plenty of water.

LESSON 2
Let Us Practice

Select five (5) Filipino Traditional Games and identify the materials used and
where it is possibly played.

open fields, or
parks

Let Us Remember

What are the ways of handling properly and to be safe in using the facilities and
equipment in playing the Filipino traditional games?

 Agawan Base: The players should be aware of what they will do to avoid accidents.
In fact, they should establish medical readiness, be more careful when running
because it may hurt when stumbled, and wear proper clothing to keep safe.
 Luksong Baka: The “baka” player should have a strong foundation and the other
players should avoid touching or falling over the baka player while jumping over to
keep the “baka” player safe from being crushed by the other players.
 Palosebo: The bamboo should be smooth so that the players won’t get hurt
climbing up, and the players should be prepared from anything else and keep
themselves from falling from the ground. Also, they should establish medical
readiness and secure players safety.
 Patintero: To keep the players safe from playing "patintero," they should not play
when they are injured, warm up and cool down first, know the rules of the game,
both players should be more careful when playing and be careful from being
stumbled.
 Tsato/Syato/Shatong: The players should warm-up and cool down. They should
encourage the batting player to aim for the pot, not the heads of the players.
Hitting the head is not allowed and never hits intentionally the players. They
should always watch out for the stick from hitting them; this is just a safety
reminder for a better playing experience.
 Tumbang Preso: The group of players should hit the can simultaneously. Only hit
the can, not the it nor other people involved in the game. Never hit intentionally
the one who is guarding the can. Use only the appropriate and prescribed
materials for the game (the empty can and the slippers/flip-flops); the can should
be safe to use when playing to avoid injuries. Do not be too physical, especially
during the tagging phase or after the empty can is knocked down. Uphold
sportsmanship during the game.
 Sipa: The players should wear the proper clothing to keep safe, especially shoes.
Shoes will prevent the foot from being damaged or injured from playing. Also, don’t
forget to warm up and cool down, know the rules of the game, watch out for
others, and don't play when you're injured.
 Chinese Garter: Players should be careful with the garter when playing to avoid
being tripped by it. Don’t jump if you can’t reach or across the height of the garter,
be aware that this game needs flexibility, coordination, and balance but don’t
push yourself if you can’t do it to avoid any accidents.

Let Us Assess
Make a Plan of recreational activity event focusing on Filipino traditional games. Select
only a one (1) game. (DO NOT FORGET TO TAKE PICTURE DURING THIS ACTIVITY)

Chinese Garter
Name of the Game: ___________________________________________________________
Mark Randyl Parcero, Janelle Partidu, Mandy Parcero
Players: (Family Members) ______________________________________________________
Rope
Materials: ____________________________________________________________________
A wide space outside of our house or outdoor
Venue: __________________________________________
April 04, 2022
Date: ______________________________
Mechanics: __________________________ (use separate sheet of paper for this)
Safety Measures: ________________________ (use separate sheet of paper for this)

MECHANICS:
1. Players are divided into two or more teams. During the game, two members of the “it”
team shall serve as “game posts” as they stand opposite each other and hold each end of
the garter. The objective of the game then is to be able to successfully jump over the
garter as it is gradually held higher by the game posts.
2. Once a jumper fails to go over a particular level, he/she will not be allowed to jump on
the next level and only the players who successfully jump the level moves on the next.
Then, one member of the team needs to make up the missed jumps of the other players
(per level). The process continues up to the highest or last level. If no one from the
jumpers successfully jumps over the highest level, they switch role with the “It” group and
the game starts a new.
3. If it is your teams turn again, (and the other team didn’t reach the last level) you’ll
continue on the level/round on where you stopped. (until you reach the last level or until
the time is up)
4. The game usually ends after the highest jump (in the last round). However, some would
continue playing the game backwards. Instead of raising the garter higher, the posts shall
hold the garter back to its lower position. The game now has a new objective: to be able to
go under the garter by bending backwards (limbo rock). The game continues this way
until the player reaches back to the lowest level.
5. The game can also end if there is a time limit. The team who is on the farthest round
and level wins.

Rounds
- 1 time (jump)
- 2 times (jump)
- Backwards (The game now has a new objective: to be able to go under the
garter by bending backwards.)
Levels

(The players may decide for their desired number of levels for their game.)

Level 1 – The garter is being held by the posts closer to the ground.
Level 2 – Knee high
Level 3 – Around the height of their hips
Level 4 – Waist high
Level 5 – Chest high
Level 6 – Shoulder high
Level 7 – Above the ear high
Level 8 – At the tip of the head
Level 9 – A few inches above the head
Level 10 –as high as a person raising his/her arms high on tip toes
Safety Measures:
Players should do warm up exercise and cool down exercise to avoid injury, wear proper
clothing, be more careful every time, and do prepare a med kit for emergency or someone to look
after you when playing. When playing outside, for example in the streets, be careful with the
passing vehicles; you should be playing in a wide space area for you to play properly and safely.
Be careful with the garter when playing to avoid being tripped by it. Don’t jump if you can’t reach
or across the height level of the garter, be aware that this game needs flexibility, coordination,
and balance but don’t push yourself if you can’t do it to avoid any accidents.
