Clas: ication and Sources of Pollution Pollution is defined as the alteration of our surroundings, wholly or largely as a product of man’s actions through direct or indirect effects that change every pattern of chemical and physical constituents of organisms. * Air Pollution — is the physical and chemical alteration of the properties of air Which renders the air harmful to human health, vegetation and animals. This pollution is responsible for major health problems. It damages human health: plants like dehy- dration and inhibition of photosynthesis; materials like discoloration of clothing items, cars and objects; and depletion of the ozone layer which leads to global warming and greenhouse effect * Water Pollution — is the physical or chemical changes in the surface and ground water caused by pollutants and which can adversely affect living organisms. One Of the causes of this is the unmonitored dumping of pollutants into the bodies of water. ‘Sewage, sludge, garbage, and even toxic pollutants are all dumped into the water and no effort has been made to disinfect the sewage or to remove especially the harmful pollutants. Further, scientists are more than 95% certain that nearly all of global warming is caused by increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases (GHGs) and other human-caused emissions. Within the earth's atmosphere, accumulat- ing greenhouse gases like water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and ozone are the gases with- in the atmosphere that absorb and emit heat radiation. Increasing or decreasing amounts of greenhouse gas- es within the atmosphere act to either hold in or release more of the heat from the sun. What is Global Warming? It's that longer-term trend that differentiates climate change from natural weather variability.
