The shepherd and the Wolves

In time not long ago, when the world was young and people were farmers,
lived a boy. His name was Jack. Now Jack was a nice, lovable child but he
had one flaw. His extreme lying… It cost him everything. This is the story of
his downfall.

One fateful day, Jacks’s father said,”Now my dear son, it is now time for me to
move on to the next phase of my life so I am leaving the farm to you.” At first,
Jack was ecstatic! He was so pleased at finally being able to do something
useful that he overlooked the responsibilities of the job. He didn’t study or
observe how to do the job at all!

When he came out to the field full of grazing animals, he just sat down and
wandered what to do. As he didn’t bring any books or any toys, he got bored
within 5 minutes. He looked at the town full of busy villagers and he thought,
“Why can’t I have a bit of fun with these villagers.” So he rolled in some mud
and ripped his clothes and screamed, “HELP THERE’S A PACK OF WOLVES
AT THE FARM!!!” Naturally the villagers rushed to the farm with their
weapons but there couldn’t find a single wolf. Then they turned around they
saw a laughing Jack who was clutching his stomach. They realised it was a trick
and stormed out of the farm.

Jack kept doing the same trick but with different animals, gradually wearing
down the trust of the villagers. Then one day, when Jack was about to try the
same thing on the villagers again, he saw a pack of the most vicious wolves. He
screamed and cried for help but the villagers just thought,”Just that stupid kid
again trying to trick us.” When realising that none of the villagers would help
him, Jack rushed back to the farm with a spear. However, Jack was far too late.
Almost every blade of grass was stained with red and there was a huge puddle
of blood near Jack. Corpses of giant, dead animals littered the farm as Jack saw
a hole in the fence where a couple of animals escaped. Just next to him, a streak
of grey flashed past him as the wolf brutally killed the sheep. Jack knelt on the
ground sobbing as the pack of wolves circled him. Jack barely made it out of the
farm alive and he was covered head to toe in deep scratches. Jack was wounded,
bankrupt and alone…

The moral of this story is that one should never lie to people as when they
really are saying the truth, no one will believe them until it is too late.
