The General Aims in Teaching Mathematics for Primary Stage

1. Understand mathematical concepts and skills necessary for the citizen in his daily
life and other related study materials, which enable him to continue his study of
mathematics in the highest stages.

2. A ware of some basic geometric concepts such as the concept of a straight line, the
line segment and the ray.

3. Identify some of the figures such as: cube, cuboid, cylinder, pyramid, cone and
sphere and simple geometric shapes and their properties such as: square,
rectangle circle and triangle.

4. Identify some units of measurement and the relationships between them (units of
length, area, volume, weight, money and time).

5. Development of problem solving skills within the limits of mental age of the pupil.

6. Develop the ability to use sound methods of thinking.

7. Acquisition the following skills and employ them in life situations and other
materials:
a. Read and write whole numbers and fractions and perform operations on them.
b. Using geometric tools in the formulation of some simple geometric shapes.
c. Using units of measurement and conversion from one unit to another.
d. Using mathematical symbols and terminology reading, writing and expression.
e. Read and interpret quantitative data in various forms.

8. Discover numerical and visual patterns.

9. Performing four operations of calculations on the basis of the order of operations.

10. Development the positive trend towards learning mathematics by helping


students to mastery of skill and employ them in everyday situations.

11. Development of belonging to the nation by highlighting the progress and the
achievements of the Egyptians in various fields, past and present whenever it had
the opportunity to.

12. Acquisition of values and moral and social trends, such as: accuracy, sound system,
self-reliance, confidence and safety.

Preparatory Stage

1. Providing with a lot of information to keep up with the technological and


scientific development.
2. Get used to making the decision through logical thinking by analyzing
situations and problems.
3. Acquisition the accuracy in expression and performance.
4. Identify the real life problems through the mathematical patterns instill in
the student affiliation and loyalty to the home.
5. Master the basic skills in mathematics to be able to engage in the labor
market efficiently and highly capable.
6. Ability to be able to employ calculations such as approximation and
reading data and represent it graphically and geometrically.
7. The ability to acquire creative thinking methods to keep pace with future
life.
8. Supply some applications that help him to keep up with his future life and
engage in the labor market.
