Proposed Topic/Title The Effects of Playing Online Games Towards the Academic
Performance of Junior High School Students

Motivation of the Online games refer to games that are played over some form of
Researcher computer network, most often the Internet. Online games can
range from simple text-based games to games incorporating
complex graphics and virtual worlds populated by many players
simultaneously. The researcher chose this topic to give
information about playing online games, furthermore, to give
benefits and effects of playing online games to a person.

Research Gap According to Kiŕaly et al. (2014) playing is one of the most basic
human behaviors. In childhood, playing is a child’s form of work
and contributes highly to both the development of skills and the
learning of social rules. In adulthood, playing can facilitate
recreation and help reduce stress. Although the effects of play are
mostly positive, excessive play can in some cases lead to
addiction. Billieux et al. (2015) stated that playing online games
can become problematic and engender adverse consequences.
Several psychological factors have been shown to influence the
development and the maintenance of this problematic behavior,
including impulsivity traits, motives to play ( immersion,
achievement, social affiliation ), and self- esteem. The study of
Hussain et al. (2015) explained that massively multiplayer online
role-playing games (MMORPGs) are a popular form of
entertainment used by millions of gamers worldwide. Potential
problems relating to MMORPG play have emerged, particularly
in relation to being addicted to playing in such virtual
environments. The result of the studies on addiction in online
games are evaluated in light of the emergent discrepancies in
findings, and the consequent implucations, the previous studies
present did not mention the effect of playing too much online
games. The researchers want to provide information, effects and
encourage to stop plating online games, as additional knowledge
on the topic.

Statement of the Problem 1.) What are the factors that affect persuading someone to stop
playing online games?

2.) How does playing online games affect the education of young
people?

3.) What are the factors that can affect a child's health if they play
too many online games?

Research Design Quantitative research generates objective facts that can be openly
stated through statistics and figures, which is why it is used by
researchers to assist them gain a better understanding of how
society functions (Griffiths, 2022) the researchers close this
approach to measure the effects of playing online games.

Respondents/Participants 100 students of San Juan Baño High School, who mostly play
online games and lack time for academics, will be the
respondents of this study.
