The Author
J.R.R Tolkien
John Ronald Reuel Tolkien. Born on January 3, 1892 – died on
September 2, 1973)

-British writer, poet, linguist and university professor, best known as


the author of the classic heroic fantasy novels The Hobbit, The
Silmarillion and The Lord of the Rings.

- Tolkien took part in the First World War, known then as the Great
War, and began his fantasy Middle-earth writings at that time.

Content of the book
Set in the fictional world of Middle-Earth, the novel

follow the hobbit Frodo Baggins, as he and a

Fellowship embark on a quest to destroy the One

Ring, and thus ensure the destruction of its

maker, the Dark Lord Sauron.

Frodo Baggins
He is a hobbit of the Shire who
inherits the One Ring from his
uncle, Bilbo Baggins and
undertakes the quest to
destroy it in the fires of Mount
Doom in Mordor.
Aragorn Elessar
First introduced with the name
Strider and later revealed to be
the heir of Isildur, an ancient
King of Arnor and Gondor. He
led the Fellowship of the Ring
following the loss of Gandalf in
the Mines of Moria.
Sauron
He is the title character
and the primary
antagonist, through the
forging of the One Ring,
where he rules the land of
Mordor and has the
ambition of ruling the whole
of Middle-earth.
Gandalf
He is a wizard, one of the
Istari order, and the leader
of the Fellowship of the
Ring. As a wizard and the
bearer of one of the Three
Rings, Gandalf has great
power, but works mostly by
encouraging and
persuading.
