ABSTRACT
INTRODUCTION
English is increasingly and frequently used to comprehend, study and explain ideas
from a variety of academic disciplines. English is the used in the instructional
tools, resources and texts. Primary language English, a foreign language, is
necessary as a mode of communication for the international educational
institutions all over the world.
Spelling, or the skill of accurately putting words together from their component
letters, is one of the key elements of good writing. Spelling with assurance fosters
confidence to all aspects of literacy. It has been demonstrated that comprehension
skills are" aided by knowing how to connect words with the same word
relationships origin and comprehending
Spelling is important for three reasons:
1. Communication: Spelling is a critical comp component of Communication.
2. Literacy: Spelling and reading chills are closely related and help develop
overall literacy
3. Employment: Spelling quality has a direct impact, employment
opportunities.
It is beneficial for young spellers in all areas in as well as in daily life to be taught
of learn about the usages, rules and concepts to increase their understanding of
spelling and vocabulary Reading and understanding comes more complicated texts
naturally to learns who are letters and word patterns. In addition to this language
confident with skills are needed to communicate effectively their own thoughts, in
both written and spoken forms.
The study investigator that has undertaken is entitled "An Analytical Study of
Spelling Difficulties among Secondary School Students:
As part of the B.Ed. programe, a study on any topic of pedagogic relevance was to
be prepared by B.Ed. students. For this purpose the students selected specific
topics and later did a study on them. The Investigator decided to conduct a survey
entitled "An Analytical study of Spelling Difficulties is among Secondary School
Students".
For conducting the survey, a questionnaire consisting of 10 questions was prepared
to analyses and check the spelling difficulties in English language among students.
A worksheet consisting of 15 questions was also pre- pared in order to find out the
area most students find difficult to spell. A group of 20 students were selected to
fill up the questionnaire and worksheet. The following report is based the study
conducted. The investigator gave answer the instructions about how to the
questionnaire and the Worksheet on the basis of which the students found out the
correct spelling of the world. The investigator then analyzed the data and the
mistakes were corrected:"
Frost the worksheet consisting of 15 test items for choosing the correct spelling
wen given. From the answers marked by the students, it was found that out 20
students, 14 scored below 50%, 2 scored above 70% and 4 scored below 40%
After this, the teacher trainee implemented questionnaire to the students to know
more about their. Spelling. Around 10% the students found it difficult to learn
spelling and 45% confused with the spelling of certain words. Only 65% of the
students were able to recall the spelling of curtain words, while others could not do
so. All too% the students agreed that spelling was important to improve the writing
skills. Only 50% of the students tried to spell words the way they thought it
sounded. 65% of the students frequently misspelled the some words. 55% of the
students spent time to learn difficult words. 70% of the students are able to write
correct spellings, while the teacher dictate the notes and 40% teaches the students
were satisfied with the taught spelling of the most words Way only their the
students found it difficult to learn the spelling of words. Spellings of words should
be taught clearly from the beginning itself. Proper training should be in the
classrooms given to the students.
FINDINGS
The Investigator found out the difficulties faced by the students in learning
spellings. The investigator gave questions from the areas the areas wen a Common
spelling errors. Single or double letters, where there was tendency put single letter
for those that needed double letters and vice versa. Another common was noticed
where one in the other letter particular word when it is may be silent
pronunciations, but in writing it cannot be ignore. The other one is position of 'i'
and 'e' and also confusion with 'or' and 'err".
The investigator found out that most of the students have a while problem about
the position of i' or 'e' and also I confusion using single or double letters. The
mistakes made by the students had to be clarified from the beginning itself.
Otherwise it will cause. Future Problems for them in the ,Therefore the teachers
have to make sure to include teaching of spelling through inductive method in the
classroom, so as to help the students to use the English language efficiently while
writing and communicating.
SUGGESTIONS
Spelling, the art of correctly assembling words from their letters, is one the
essential components successful writing. Being confident at spelling leads
confidence in all aspects of literacy. The ability recognize the links between word
the same origin and understanding word relationships has been proven to aid
comprehension skills. Spelling, reading, writing and comprehension. Shills are all
closely ability, linked Spelling instruction improves reading as it builds a learner's
knowledge of alphabetic system alpha b as it is used in reading the relationship
between written words and sounds can seem arbitrary and difficult for many
building learners. But building Strong foundational knowledge of the links
between a forms, letters, sounds and meanings is essential for students to become
confident communicators.
Therefore beaching students the strategies, rules and concepts to enhance their
spelling and vocabulary knowledge benefits them in all aspects of Learning as well
as in their everyday life.
