Evaluating Personal Core Values

Roles Core Values Explain

1. As a student Hard Work Being a student made me realize the

importance of hard work and how it could take
you to great heights as long as you accomplish
academic tasks with the best of your efforts. In
every endeavor I undertake, I always dedicate
a hundred percent of myself. I never do
something half meant because chances are,
the results will be undesirable. Therefore, I
dedicate time and effort, and accomplish my
work in a way that fulfills my personal
standards.

2. As a brother/ Responsibility As the eldest among my siblings, I have

sister adopted at an early age a sense of
responsibility. This trait has always been handy
because I always think about the
consequences of my actions. As much as
possible, I always try to take the path that
leaves the least damage. Responsibility has
taught me to take accountability for my actions
and view how it could affect not only myself but
other people as well.

3. As a leader Decisiveness Innately, I have always been reliant on other

people when making decisions. I would always
grab the chance to never make final decisions
at all and have someone decide for me
instead. The thought of settling with an
irrevocable final judgment terrifies me because
once you’ve decided, you have to commit to it
and there’s no turning back. But taking the role
of being a leader has pushed me to be a good
decision maker. I learned to weigh options and
figure out the best choice that could be the
most convenient and beneficial. It encouraged
me to be fearless and to be ready for what my
decision will entail. Most importantly,
establishing the core value of decisiveness
allowed me to take a stand and be
accountable for it.

4. As a son/ Respect The most important value that my parents

daughter instilled within me is respect. Specifically,
respect for those who deserve it, and to those
who don’t, I just make sure our paths never
cross. This really honed me as a person
because I tend to be more sensitive and
calculating towards others with regards to their
opinions and beliefs that don't always resonate
with mine. I learn to make peace with it and
prevent myself from forcing my sentiments to
other people. Furthermore, my parents’
definition of respect also extends to inanimate
objects, nature, places and animals. Knowing
this, I try to always be mindful and put into
practice appropriate behaviors in all kinds of
situations.

5. As a friend Empathy My relationship with friends also allowed me to

develop into an emotionally intelligent person.
Putting yourself in the shoes of others instead
of hastily making judgements is a simple act,
yet, it brings enormous changes. Empathy
gave me a new perspective about other people
and their situations so that I can be more
understanding. For example, before judging a
person for being grumpy or mean, the first
thing that comes to my mind is; “Maybe this
person is just having a bad day.” Empathy
reinforces our sense of humanity. Somehow, it
makes me less harsh, because I’m the type of
person that is brutally honest and I do not
realize that my words come off as offensive or
rude. But with the practice of empathy, I have
developed a kinder and more sensitive touch.
