How to install Simply Track for 10m² and 16m² Scheffler Reflectors

The following points need to be observed:

 All axis must be parallel and in line:

o The axis of rotation of the reflector (on a 10m² reflector this is a 3” pipe)
o The motor axis
o The clutch shaft

When installing the tracker: the only axis you have to align is the clutch shaft. Make sure it is parallel and
in line with the axis of rotation of the reflector (parallel to earth axis).

How to align the clutch shaft?

The alignment depends on the orientation of:
o The piece you mount to the stand which will hold support of the tracker. It can be an angle iron (as
in the fotos). Usually it is enough that this piece is aligned square to the stand of the reflector
(square to the pipes running “vertically” in the foto)
o The position of the two bolts that you use to attach the support of the tracker to the mounting
piece. The position of the two bolts controls that the clutch shaft is in line with the main rotational
axis sideways.

 Do not open the bolts that mount the motor, as the motor is aligned and has the correct distance to the
clutch shaft already
 Do not open the bolts on the parts that hold the bearings for the clutch shaft. The clutch shaft is set to rotate
easily. Opening any bolts may disturb the setting.
 Never use the tracker without stoppers! They act like end-switches and limit the rotation of the reflector.
Not using stoppers can result in damage to the mechanical parts of the tracker.
You need to install a stopper at the position where the reflector shall start to rotate in the morning (East).
Another stopper is to be installed at the position where the reflector shall stop its daily rotation in the late
afternoon (West) and go back to morning position (where it will wait). When you set the position of the
western stopper make sure that there is enough light on the PV panel to produce enough electricity to
rotate the reflector into morning position.
 Do not drill any holes into the IP65 casing of the electronics. This can result in problems with water entering.

 When you connect the PV panel: make sure the polarity is correct!

Mounting the Sensor

The sensor is mounted to the central bar of the reflector.

The sensor case has to be parallel to polar axis when the reflector is in equinox position (as
indicated in the foto below). You can hold a spirit level horizontally (green line) and place the
latitude angle cut out of cardboard on top of the spiritlevel. This gives you an edge (red line) for
alining the sensor case.

In case you install several reflectors in a row: fit the sensor to the top part of the centerbar. This
avoids that shadow from the neighboring reflector falls onto it.

equinox position the
sensor case has latitude
angle.

Sideways the sensor has to be adjusted so that the motor does not run when the reflector is
focused perfectly.
