Quidway SessionEngine2200 Session Border Controller Chapter 5 Hardware Maintenance
Caution:
The SE2200 supports 1+1 redundant power system. The power modules are
hot-swappable.
Step 1: Remove the power cord from the power module and loosen the two captive
screws in the top panel of the module.
Step 2: Hold the handle of t he module and gently pull the module out along the guides,
as shown in Figure 5-1.

Caution:
If no power module has been installed, install the blank filler panel to keep well heat
dissipation and prevent dust entering.
Step 1: Hold the handle of the power module panel, slowly push the module int o the
chassis along the guides until it well touches the rear power panel inside the power
slot of the chassis.
Step 2: Fasten the two captive screws in the power module panel.
Step 4: Plug one end of t he power cord shipped with t he chassis into the socket in the
power module and connect the other end to the power supply.
Step 5: Check if the power status indicators on the RP U are normal. For the detailed
status description, refer to “1.4.1 RP U”.
The fan is hot-swappable and used for exhausting air to cool the cards. The fan is
installed vertically to the right side inside the chassis.

Step 2: One hand holds the handle attached to t he front of the fan and pull part of it
out, while the other hand holds the bottom of the fan.
Step 3: Pull the whole fan out after it completely stops rotating, as shown in Figure
5-2.
Caution:
When you pull out the fan, the fan is powered off. However, it may still rotate for a
while for the sake of inertia. Be careful an d do not put your finger into the rot ating
fan.
The fan is rather long. Use one hand to hold the bottom of the fan, the other hand
holds the handle attached to the front of the fan, and pulls it out slowly.
Step 1: Hold the handle attached to the front of the fan with one hand and hold the
bottom with the other hand. Slowly insert the fan into the chassis along the guides
until it well touches the rear panel.

Step 3: Check if the fan status indicator on the RPU is normal. For the detailed status
description, refer to “1.4.1 RP U”.
Caution:
Be sure to power off the RPU before removing it. Otherwise, it will be damaged.
Step 1: Power off the switch. If there are two power modules installed, turn both of
them off.
Step 3: Pull the handles at both side of the RP U out ward and gently pull the RPU out
along the guides until the whole card is separat ed from the chassis, as shown in
Figure 5-3.

Step 1: Power off the switch. If there are two power modules installed, turn both of
them off.
Step 2: Align the corners of the far edge with the guides in RP U slot and push the
RPU inside the SE2200. At the same time, push the handles at both side of the RPU
inward until it well touches the RP U panel. At this time, the corner between t he RPU
handles and its panel cannot be smaller.
Step 3: Fasten the captive screws and fix the RP U on the SE2200.
Step 4: Check if the status indicators on the RPU are normal after powering on the
switch. For the detailed status description, refer to “1.4.1 RP U”.

Caution:
Do not touch any component on the surface of the SDRAM with bare hand. You
can only hold it by the non-conductive edge of the SDRAM, because the SDRAM
is prone to the electrostatic damage due to improper operations.
It feels hard while removing t he SDRAM, but do not overexert during the operation.
I. Removing an RPU
The S DRAM is located on t he RPU. Before replacing the SDRAM, remove the RPU
(following the way introduced in “5. 4 RPU Removal and Installation”) and make sure
of the S DRAM location.
Step 1: Press outward the locking clips at both side of the S DRAM slot with an
appropriate force, and the SDRAM will spring out from the slot.
Step 2: Take the non-conductive edge of the S DRAM between thumb and index finger
and pull it out from the slot. Put the SDRAM into an anti -static bag to avoid ESD
damage.
Step 1: Take out a new SDRAM. Hold the SDRAM by its top non-conductive edge and
put it into the SDRAM slot in the correct direction.
Step 2: Exercise adequat e pressure on the SDRAM and press it into the slot, and
press the locking clip at both sides of the slot. When the forc e is appropriate, the
locking clips will shut and the bumps at both ends of the clip will fit into the
semicircular position holes at both sides of the SDRAM.
For the RPU installation method, refer to “5.4 RP U Removal and Installation”.
