Based on the brief historical background of science and technology of our country:

1. What do you think were the roots/causes of early Philippine scientific development?

Early Philippine scientific development had the roots during the Spanish Regime. Formal
education has been introduced, where religion, writing and music were taught. The beginnings of
modern science and technology in the Philippines can be traced to the Spanish era. Spaniard made
contributions in the field of engineering by constructing government establishment, church, road and
bridges. The technology of town planning and stone, brick, and tile building was introduced by the
Spaniards.

2. What are the significant contributions of our history to the development of science and technology in
our country?

We have studied and seen the beginnings and development of our country, which has made a
significant contribution to the development of science and technology in the Philippines. There’s a lot of
things that have been invented/practiced years ago that until today are very useful. And through our
history we gain wisdom to develop more science and technology in terms of:

 Developing culture
 Upgrading infrastructure,
 Improved access to quality science and technology services
 Information and communication technology
 Medical field
 Economic development
 Agriculture development and more
