1.3 Historical performance of bearing and metal plate

Bearings are part of our everyday life. It would be incredibly difficult to picture themodern
world without them, especially in the industrial age.

Any machine you can think of that involves motion in some way utilizes bearings to reduce
friction and smooth its path. These vital pieces of technology did not appear overnight
when the creation of metal machines began. In fact, bearings have a long historyof use that
goes back to the stone age.

Since bearings are vital to your customers' needs, it’s important to have a comprehensive
understanding of how bearings were created and how they have evolved to provide us with
the modern-day solution for various loads and jobs.

At Bearing & Drive Systems, we know that the worry of providing inferior products to
your customers is real, but it doesn't have to be.

We're committed to providing solutions that help you find the authentic bearing & PT
products that your customers need now.

1.4 Analysis of the Industry

The five-force analysis of the industry reveals the following facts.

Bargaining power of Buyers – The Industry has more than 63 manufacturers which gives
the buyers a wide range of choice. also, the market is fragmented so Manufacturer
penetration is quite less. This gives high bargaining powers to the buyers.

Bargaining power of Suppliers – As the industry is highly Raw Material driven where the
main raw material is natural rubber. The production of rubber doesn’t increase proportional
to its demand and hence the bargaining power of suppliers is very high.

Competitive Rivalry – While the number of players in the industry is 40, the market share
seems to be quite concentrated at the hands of the top 10 players. also, in each product
category like two-wheeler, T&B, etc., the market share of lead players approximates to
80%.

Availability of Substitutes – The major concern for the Indian manufacturers is the price
of the bearing in the overseas market like China. The price of plastic is the driving factor
for price and when it increases in the domestic market, the Indian manufacturers are bound
to increase the price.

Entry Barriers – The industry is highly capital intensive and margins are very low. This
makes it difficult to sustain for new entrants. Automobile makers although resort to
backward integration.

Bearings are machine elements that allow components to move with respect to each other.

There are two types of bearings: contact and non-contact. Contact-type bearings have
mechanical contact with equipment, which includes sliding, rolling, or flexural bearings.

Non-contact bearings include liquid, air, mixed-phase, and magnetic bearings. The lack of
mechanical contact eliminates static friction.

A bearing is a machine element that constrains relative motion to only the desired motion
and reduces friction between moving parts.

The design of the bearing may, for example, provide for free linear movement of the
moving part or for free rotation around a fixed axis; or, it may prevent a motion by
controlling the vectors of normal forces that bear on the moving parts.

Most bearings facilitate the desired motion by minimizing friction. Bearings are classified
broadly according to the type of operation, the motions allowed, or the directions of the
loads (forces) applied to the parts.

How Does a Bearing Work

Bearings reduce friction by providing smooth metal balls or rollers, and a smooth inner and
outer metal surface for the balls to roll against. These balls or rollers “bear” the load,
allowing the device to work smoothly.

The bearing makes many of the machines we use every day possible. Without bearings, we
would constantly be replacing parts that wear out from friction. Objects roll more easily
than they slide. The wheels on your car are like big bearings. If you had something like
skis instead of wheels, your car would be much more difficult to push down the

The wheel bearings are located at the outer part of each suspension, behind the brake disc
and the wheel hub. Some wheel bearings are pressed into the wheel hub and can be

7
impossible to see without removing the brake disc and the wheel hub, while others are
installed as a whole hub with bolts. This makes it easier to see the wheel bearing

Car suspension systems are in constant use during driving and require robust solutions to
improve performance and minimize cost.

The Macpherson strut is an established type of automotive suspension system, which is

applied widely in modern vehicles. It requires robust, reliable bearings and seals to
maintain performance. Our MacPherson strut bearings and shock absorber seals help to
achieve this.
The design enables a coil spring or complete suspension to rotate during steering with low,
constant-friction torque. At the same time, it allows spring rotation during normal
suspension movements, and transmits suspension loads to chassis. Each bearing has been
designed for a specific application in terms of load, housing geometry and protection from
the environment.

Wheel bearings are an essential part of your vehicle's steering and suspension system.
Wheel bearings are responsible for keeping the wheels attached to the vehicle. They allow
each wheel to spin freely and at the desired speed. Wheel bearings take a steady amount of
abuse. They support the entire weight of your vehicle while traveling over rough roads,
potholes and other rugged terrain. Wheel bearings are one of the longest lasting steering
and suspension parts, but it really depends on driving habits, driving conditions and other
factors.

If a wheel bearing becomes worn out or damaged, it can affect the wheel's ability to rotate
smoothly, independently and securely. This can lead to unsafe driving conditions and is
something that should be addressed immediately. Some wheel bearings are equipped with
ABS or speed sensors. If a bearing is worn or damaged, the ABS system may not work
properly, also affecting the safety of a vehicle. A worn wheel bearing can disturb the
alignment of the vehicle creating additional issues with tires and other suspension parts
over time

8
Grinding, squealing, or unusual noise from your wheels when you drive

The most common and often most identifiable symptom associated with a bad wheel
bearing is noise coming from the wheel or tire area of the moving vehicle. If you listen
closely, you are likely to hear grinding, grating, or whirring that gets louder as the vehicle
accelerates. It's not a common occurrence, so the noise may be misinterpreted as something
else. A bearing can be worn and not make noise, and a bearing can make noise and not be
worn. Unusual noise is not the only indicator of a worn wheel bearing.

Steering wheel feels loose or rattles when you drive the car

As a wheel bearing begins to wear down, it becomes loose inside the wheel hub and spindle.
This wear makes your vehicle feel loose or shaky while steering. If you experience this
type of steering or handling, it's definitely something to address promptly.

If a wheel bearing is locked up, the wheel will not easily move forward

When the seal on a wheel bearing is compromised, the noise you may be hearing becomes
louder over time. Seals are critical components for the longevity of a bearing. If air, dust,
salt, sand, etc. get inside, they can contaminate the lubricants and other components. Once
this occurs, it can break down the lubricants and other components causing friction. If a
bearing gets really hot, cages and seals could be deformed and lead to bearing lock-up.
This may feel like the parking brake has been applied and you may notice resistance when
you accelerate. You'll want to have this checked out immediately

Wheel bearing replacement is not a common occurrence, so the warning signs may be
challenging to identify. It may seem like the brakes are grinding or the alignment is off
which is pulling the car to one side. In all of these instances, it's best to let a certified
technician properly evaluate the root cause.

9
Early detection and properly resolving the issue can save time, money and
aggravation in the long run.

What causes Wheel Bearings to go bad

Wheel bearings can generally last for a long time; however much of this depends on driving
habits, type of vehicle, driving conditions and other external factors. Driving on rugged
terrain or hitting potholes and curbs can all contribute to wearing down wheel bearings. If
the seals of the bearings are compromised – air, dust, salt, sand and other contaminates can
get inside to corrode or damage parts. Once this occurs, it can break down the lubricants
and other components causing friction. If a bearing gets really hot, cages and seals could
be deformed and lead to bearing lock-up. This may feel like the parking brake has been
applied. You may notice resistance in trying to accelerate.

When should I have Wheel Bearings replaced

Wheel bearings should last for quite a while. If your car is operating fine, you may want to
have the wheel bearings inspected about every 30,000 miles. Otherwise, if you notice any
of the warning signs listed above, you should have your vehicle examined promptly. A
certified

THE METAL SHEET MANUFACTURING PROCESS

1) Aluminum metal sheet

Aluminum is a chemical element with the symbol AI and atomic number 13.
The aluminum metal bundle will first go through the Wire Electro Discharge
Machine. Aluminum is a very desirable metal because it is more malleable and elastic than
steel. Aluminum can go places and create shapes that steel cannot, often forming deeper or
more intricate spinning’s. Especially for parts with deep and straight walls, aluminum is
the material of choice.
Chemically, aluminum is a post-transition metal in the boron group, as is common for the
group, aluminum forms compounds primarily in the oxidation state.

The discovery of aluminum was announced in 1825 by Danish physicist. The firstindustrial
production of aluminum was initiated by French chemist Henri Etienne sainte Claire
Deville in 1856.

19
2) Wire Electronic Discharge Machine
Wire electronic discharge machine is an electro thermal production process where a thin
single strand metal wire along with de-ionized water allows the wire to cut through metal
by the use of heat from electrical sparks, while preventing rust.

3) Surface Grinding Machine

Surface grinding is used to produce a smooth finish on flat surfaces. It is a widely used
abrasive machining process in which used abrasive machining process in which a

20
spinning wheel covered in rough particulars cuts chips of metallic or nonmetallic substance
from work-piece, making a face of it flat or smooth.

4) Milling Machine
Milling machine are a type of machinery for removing material from a workpiece
using rotary cutters. These machines can drill, bore, and cut an array of materials.

21
5) PRESS OPERATION
After the wire electron machines work completed the metals will be made into smallmetal
pieces and then the operation for that small metal pieces begins with press operation.
Press operation is also known as a forming press, A machine press is a tool used in the
manufacturing industry to deform a workpiece under high pressure.

After the press operation the metal sheet will be designed according to the need of the
product. Then the product will be re-checked and stored in the boxes and sent to the
customers.

BEARING MANUFACTURING PROCESS

The company produces the bearing with different sizes or with the various form like 2mm,
4mm.These bearings are used in the vehicles like cars, trucks, buses for their wheel bearing,
suspension bearing as well as for the gear box bearing.

22
1) Forming operation

The first step is the forming of rubber with a suitable size for assigning the balls inside the
bearing. This will lead to the assemble of rubber in a round shape, which is donethrough the
heating of rubber and joining the edges and molding it to perfect shape.

2) Center hole pressing

The center of the bearing will be pressed using the high force of the machines, then the
bearing product will come into an shape so that the balls can be placed inside perfectly

3) Blanking and Trimming

Blanking is commonly used to mass produce components for industries such as aerospace
and automobile manufacturing. It’s also used for high volume fabrication of parts.
Trimming refer to the clipping, paring, pruning etc. to trim a hedge to remove something
dispensable.
There is another product production will be taking place in the company called Nylon 6
plastic product, which is used in the assemble of the bearings.

INJECTION MOLDING MACHINE

An injection molding machine also known as an injection press, is a machine for

manufacturing plastic products by the injection molding process. It consists of two main
parts, an injection unit and a clamping unit.

23
Injection Molding Machine is used to make a range of widely used products, including
common plastic items like remote control casing.

Process: - Injection molding is a forming process using molds. Materials such as synthetic
resins are heated and melted, and then sent to the mold where they are cooled to form the
designed shape. Due to the resemblance to the process of injection molding.

Inspection and Finishing

Finishing operations and inspection remain to be performed before the bearings and metal
stored or shipped. The finishing operation trims flash or excess of rubber or plastic from
the product. This contributes to respiratory illness in workers in the finishing area.

2.9 FUTURE GROWTH AND ASPECTS

According to an industry report the domestic automobile industry. The industry (including
component manufacturing) is expected to grow at a compounded annual growth rate of
5.9%, thereby becoming the fastest growing industry in the country as per the report. While
there have been some headwinds like Kerala floods, tightened financing, insurance related
regulatory changes impacting four-wheeler demand, rising fuel and interest costs, among
others, the YTD (year-to-date) sales growth across, most segments have been robust

24
leading to healthy OE bearing demand growth. Bearing demand especially in the truck and
bus segment, too has recovered sharply in the last one year supported by post-effects of
goods and service tax (GST), pick-up in infrastructure activities, and healthy consumption
driven demand, both in terms of quality and pricing, 1cr stated.

Opportunities are openings or chances for something positive to happen, but you'llneed to
claim them for yourself! They usually arise from situations outside your organization, and
require an eye to what might happen in the future. They might arise as developments in the

and Relationship AUTOVEA METALPLAST has both formal and informal type of
organizations

• The main strategy is to ensure maximum utilization of available resources. For this
purpose, the company believes in mainly prompting from within the organization and there

45
4.2.5 Style:
Style can be thought of as the culture of the organization, the overall attitudes, or simply
the way people behave around one another at the office and within the organization. There’s
an old business saying coined by Peter Drucker; “Culture eats strategy for breakfast,”
(Rick, 2020). If true, (Drucker was a pretty smart guy, so it’s a safe assumption)we can see
that this is an essential aspect of running a successful organization. If those around you are
working hard and taking pride in their work, you’ll be more likely to do the same. If
everyone is working slowly and taking little care to get things right, then you’ll feel less
pressure to perform yourself.

The situational approach to leadership seems the best suited to this organizational aspect,
(Northouse p 93). Leaders need to be able to assess the situations at hand and make
appropriate decisions based on that. These leaders need to be extremely attuned to the
feelings, behaviors and culture of the organization, but a certain finesse is necessary to
maintain morale and overall focus. A good leader will understand when to inspire, when
to offer incentives, and when to crack the proverbial whip in order to keep the culture
strong in their organization.

throughout the business area. These values must be explicitly stated as both corporate
objectives and individual values. A shared value is an essential characteristics or attribute
promoted by organization to motivate the behavior of members, of the organization.

• In simple words, shared values are what engender areas. These values must be explicitly
as both corporate objectives and individual values. Respect humanity: improving quality
