COURSE DESCRIPTION
This is a first of a two part sequence in Introductory Chinese. Students develop language skills at a basic level.
They practise speaking, listening, reading and writing. (Not open to native speakers.)

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to
1. Comprehend basic oral and written modern standard Chinese, commonly known as Mandarin;
2. Speak in Chinese on selected topics;
3. Speak and write Chinese with grammatical accuracy;
4. Recognize and write approximately 100 characters;
5. Identify selected aspects of Chinese culture;
6. Consult a Chinese dictionary arranged by Pinyin alphabetical order; and
7. Type Chinese characters on a computer.
