4. For lane A, average normal flow and saturation flow are 600 PCU /hr and 1450 PCU
/hr respectively and for lane B, average normal flow and saturation flow are 400 PCU
/hr and 1000 PCU/hr respectively. All red time for pedestrian crossing is 14 seconds.
Calculate green time for both the road and phase signal cycle length of the road.

5. A vehicle applies brakes and skids through a distance of 40 m, before colliding with
another parked vehicle, the weight of which is 60% of former. From fundamental
principle, compute the critical speed (initial speed) of moving vehicle, if distance
travelled by both vehicles after collision is 12 m before stopping. (f = 0.60)

6. At a horizontal curve portion of a 4 lane carriageway, a transition curve is to be


introduced to attain required super elevation. The design speed is 60 kmph and radius
of curve is 245 m. Assume length of wheel base of a longest vehicle as 6 m, super
elevation rate as 5% and rate of introduction of this super elevation as 1 in 150.
Calculate the length of transition curve (m) required, if the pavement is rotated about
inner edge.
