Complete the following making sure to support your ideas and cite from the textbook and other
course materials per APA guidelines. After the peer review, you have a chance to update this and
format for your Electronic Portfolio due in Module 6.

1) Briefly restate your situation from Module 1 and your role.

Our office's responsibility as a part of the Navy-Marine Corps integration is to outfit the ship
with the tools and supplies required to support the Air Combat Element. We closely coordinate
with the ship and examine inventory data to ensure there is enough stock on board to meet the
needs of the flying squadron. Additionally, we teach supply Sailors how to manage Aviation
related material. Normally, we start working with the ship about a year before the Marine
Expeditionary Unit deploys.

Unfortunately, there we ran into serious challenges with the latest ship we helped integrate. We
had trouble allocating resources since the flying squadron had particular requirements for robust
support despite the ship's restricted capacity. We also had difficulties with ship’s supply as it
appeared that our training efforts were not adequately implemented, which led to rework and
added difficulties in planning and carrying out logistics activities.

2) Describe how the human resources of the organization influenced the situation.

Since the beginning of our interactions, it became increasingly evident that the human resources
principles were at played in the situation. One key aspect was the allocation of resources for the
flying squadron, which heavily relied on the ship's personnel. The ship's personnel are
responsible for the stowage and care of aviation-related material and supplies, and their
cooperation and willingness to find innovative solutions were crucial in overcoming the
challenges we faced. However, it became apparent that there were some reservations or among
the ship's personnel in embracing new approaches or thinking outside the box. This affected our
ability to effectively address the resource allocation issues and hindered our progress in finding
optimal solutions.

3) Recommend how you would use the human resources for an alternative course of action
regarding your case.

The primary objective of the United States Marine Corps, like any military organization, is
mission accomplishment, ensuring the effective fulfillment of duties and operational goals.
However, the secondary objective of the Marine Corps is troop welfare, prioritizing the care and
support of military personnel. The human resources frame emphasizes the significance of
attending to the physical and mental well-being of military personnel, providing them with
adequate training, resources, promoting work-life balance, and fostering a positive work
environment. Striking a balance between mission accomplishment and troop welfare is a
challenge faced by military leaders and organizations everyday.

In light of the challenges encountered during the integration process with the last ship, a few of
the alternative courses of action utilizing human resources principles could be considered. This
could involve implementing actively addressing personnel concerns and fostering a culture of
mutual respect and support. Regularly visiting to the ship can provide valuable insights and
facilitate problem-solving, allowing for closer collaboration and understanding of their
operational challenges. This approach will optimize the relationship between the Navy and
Marine Corps team, promoting a greater level of operational effectiveness while ensuring the
well-being of the ship's personnel.By incorporating the principles of the human resources frame
and maintaining a balanced approach, military organizations can achieve mission success while
also prioritizing the welfare and morale of their troops. This holistic perspective recognizes that
when individuals find satisfaction and meaning in their work, the organization benefits from their
enhanced talent and energy (Bolman & Deal, 2021), ultimately contributing to overall success.

4) Reflect on what you would do or not do differently given what you have learned about
this frame.

After learning about the human resources frame, I would approach our issues with a greater
emphasis on the human aspect. It became apparent that our training efforts were not effectively
absorbed by the ship's personnel, which led us to suspect that they may have been overwhelmed
and unable to communicate their challenges to us. One significant change I would make is to
actively encourage the ship's personnel to share their insights and experiences. I would prioritize
creating a safe and supportive environment where they feel comfortable expressing their
concerns and provide feedback ((Bolman & Deal, 2021). Additionally, I would organize
knowledge sharing sessions where both our team and the ship's personnel can exchange
information and learn from each other's experiences.

To further enhance our integration processes, I would implement a system for capturing and
documenting lessons learned from previous integrations. By systematically collecting and
analyzing these insights, we can identify recurring challenges and develop strategies to overcome
them effectively. This would help us empower the ship’s personnel and foster a learning culture

within our team and the ship, where continuous improvement and innovation are encouraged
(Bolman & Deal, 2021).
