long lead time. Kindly order at least 2 months in advance.

Daily Inspection

• A daily inspection for damage and defects


must be performed before each use of the
man basket to hoist personnel/material.
• The inspection must be carried out by a
qualified person and must cover all parts of
the manbasket.
Daily Load Testing

• It is mandatory to test the crane basket every


time before a lift is performed.
• Test weights should be rated 1.25 times the
capacity of the basket.
Certification – 3rd Party Inspection

• Be sure that the man basket


is certified by a third party
inspection.
• MEIL Manbaskets are 3rd
Party Certified.
• The manbasket must meet
all statutory requirements.
• Do not try to fabricate
manbaskets at site.
Use of PPEs

• The worker should wear


helmet, safety glasses,
safety harness with double
lanyard for tying off to the
basket.
Use of PPEs

• MEIL man baskets feature


a full-perimeter safety
harness hook-up, which
allows personnel to be
attached almost anywhere
inside the basket.
• Never tie off to an
adjoining structure.

mechanisms must close
and lock to prevent
accidental opening.

Crane Safety

• The safety of the manbasket depends on the


safety of the crane.
• Don’t use the man basket without having the
crane inspected by a qualified crane inspector.
• Do not use defective or damaged crane.
Competent Crane Operators

• Be sure your crane driver is well trained and licensed.


• It is also essential to have a trained standby person to guide
travel and operation of any mobile crane, whether working
indoors or outdoors.
• Also, the workers in the basket and the crane driver should be
in constant contact (visually, walkie-talkie, etc.).
• Remember to keep the crane operator’s manual on hand at
the job site.
Crane Safety

• Do check the crane or outriggers when the boom


is elevated for use, regardless of whether or not
someone is in the basket.
• Tag lines should be used to manipulate or control
manbasket from outside unless their use creates
an unsafe condition.
• Exercise extreme caution to prevent hoisting,
swinging, or lowering into or onto any
obstructions.
Bad Weather Conditions

• The manbasket should


not be used in windy or
poor weather conditions,
such as rain, sleet and
snow.
Safe Use of Manbaskets

• Workers should keep all body parts inside the basket when it
is being lifted.
• Never climb onto the guardrails while the basket is in a
lifted position.
• Don’t permit unauthorized personnel to use the man basket.
• Don’t try to exit the man basket unless it has landed on the
surface.
Maximum Working Load Limits

• Know the approximate weights of all persons/material


located in or attached to the man basket, and do not
exceed the rated capacity of the man basket.

• As far as possible, do not carry persons and loads at the


same time in the man baskets. Use separate trips
wherever possible.
Unauthorized Modifications

• Never attempt to lengthen or shorten the


slings.

• Never attempt to make modifications to


any part of the the manbasket
Unsafe Practices

• Don’t try and use any other means of lifting


equipment such as web slings or wire ropes of a
different diameter.
Unsafe Practices

• Don’t attach your safety belt lanyard to an adjacent


structure when occupying the man basket.

• Don’t sit, stand or climb the man basket guardrail.

• Do not use boards, ladders, other devices or extensions in


the man basket as a working position.
Clearance from Electrical Lines

• Maintain more than


the MINIMUM
required clearance
from live electrical
lines.
