SCHOOLS AND EXTREME SPORTS IN EXCURSIONS

Schools are not the closed institutions that it used to be in the past. That is why schools all over
the world do excursions. But can excursions include all type of activities, for instance, risky
and dangerous sports?

To begin with, we want to remark that all the activities related to sports in educational
enviroments should be guided by professionals, such as monitors. In addition, in risky and
dangerous activities, there must be protocols to avoid all kind of trouble. Furthermore, it is
necessary to have an insurance, in case something happens.

On the other hand, we have to consider the age of the participants in risky activities: because
some sports can be too dangerous for children. From my personal experience, it is not
recommended to do aquatic activities with children under 12 years. We just have to remember
all the accidents that had happened this summer in the catalan beaches and rivers to know that
it is not a good idea to go with 20 or 30 kids with just a few adults to look for them.

In my opinion, that is the reason why it is better to avoid risky and dangerous sports in school
excursions. I think it is better to avoid problems rather than have a nice experience. To sum up,
it is a positive fact that schools want to give an opportunity to enjoy different experiences to
everybody, but always priorising the safety of their students.
