Existing
 Novel technologies in water purification:
ultrasound waves for water desalination and
purification, recycling wastewater aboard the
space station(NASA).
 Novel technologies in recycling:
the most recent innovation includes creation
of the recycling technology that enables to
sort three types of plastic simultaneously.
 Novel technologies in renewable energy
production:
-sunlight: solar PV systems, solar
architecture and artificial photosynthesis;
-bioenergy: biodiesel, biogas, biofuel;
-wind: wind turbines;
-water: hydroelectric energy;
-plant growth;
-geothermal heat: Geothermal Heat
Pumps – provide both heating and cooling.

Potential
Probable future innovations:
 Solar aircrafts that run on electric
motors with electricity coming
from solar cells.
 Zero-energy buildings.
 Oil production from anything:
Any carbon-based waste can, by adding
sufficient heat and pressure, be turned
into oil through a process called thermo-
depolymerization.
 Desalination using inexpensive
fuels.
 Hydrogen fuel cell usage:
alternative to fossil fuels (basically, cars
that emit nothing but clean water).
 Green roofs:
 Absorb heat
 Reduce the carbon dioxide
impact
 Lessen ‘heat island effect’ that
occur in urban centers
 Electronic paper:
a flexible display that looks very much
like real paper but can be reused over
and over.
CURRENT PROJECTS:
 “Solar pavement” in France – paving
roads with photovoltaic panels in
order to supply power to millions of
people.
 The recycling plant to be built by the
ECOMETRE project will recover nicke
from industrial waste.
