Annoyed being asked for responsibility, a young Balinese man murdered his pregnant
girlfriend

A young man named I Kadek Juniarta faces 15 years in prison for murdering his own girlfriend,
NMDS. The perpetrator was charged with multiple articles, namely article 80 paragraph 3 in
conjunction with article 76 letter C of Law No.35 of 2014 concerning child protection.
Denpasar Police Chief Bambang Yugo Pamungkas said that the maximum threat was 15 years
with a maximum fine of 3 billion Rupiahs, They also applied the Criminal Code article with a
maximum prison sentence of 15 years.

The perpetrator killed the victim, who is his own girlfriend due to being annoyed at being held
responsible for her pregnancy. The incident took place on the afternoon of February 7th of 2023
at I Kadek’s house at Gunung Batur Street, West Denpasar. According to Bambang, the
perpetrator asked the victim for sex. At that time, the victim asked the perpetrator to tell her
pregnancy to both their parents. Claiming they weren’t ready for the financial problem, the
perpetrator got angry and drove the victim back to her house. Unexpectedly, the perpetrator
chased and entangled the victim’s neck with a scarf until she was unable to move. Bambang
explained that the victim had resisted and managed to let go, but the perpetrator had strangled
the victim again until she had fainted. Seeing that the victim isn’t moving, the perpetrator
proceeds to strangle her neck again so that she didn’t move. Bambang also said that the victim
had been taken to a warehouse and had been put to a sitting position, meanwhile the perpetrator
went to deliver rice to his mother’s stall.

The Denpasar police forces received the case report and managed to arrest the perpetrator and
secure evidences on the same day. The police are still conducting a post mortem examination
on the victim’s deceased body. Bambang explained that they were able to uncover the
perpetrator within 3 hours. Although the perpetrator had claimed that the victim had been
pregnant for 3 months, but the police would do a post mortem to be more precise.
