The Hero’s Journey Final Project
Reyes
The ordinary world- Santiago is a shepherd with a flock of sheep. He knows
how to read. He likes the merchants daughter. The setting is the Spanish town
of Tarifa.

The Call to Adventure- Santiago’s reoccurring dream is his call to


adventure. It invites him on a journey to the pyramids.
Refusal- Santiago thinking he shouldn’t go on his journey because he’s comfortable as a shepard and he thinks that the sheep may
suffer without him.

Mentor helper- The old man and the crystal merchant are Santiago’s mentor helpers.
Crossing the Threshold- Santiago sells his sheep and leaves his life as a
shepherd behind to take the next step in his journey.

Tests Allies and Enemies- Love, fear, fear of


realizing dreams, and being told that it’s
impossible to achieve the dreams you have when
you’re a kid.
Approach- Two hawks tell Santiago that enemies are coming to attack.
Santiago then tells everyone and they all prepare for war.

Ordeal- The little bit of gold that Santiago finds in


the pyramids gets stolen from him. He then
realizes where his treasure really is.
Treasure- Santiago’s treasure was a chest filled with gold and jewels.

Road Back- Santiago going back to Tarifa to give


one tenth of his treasure to the Gypsy Woman
then going to Fatima to start a life with her.
Growth- Santiago accepting his travels to the desert and his travels to
Tangier and his ability to perform miracles and the strength that he has.

Reward- Santiago returns to Tarifa to give one tenth of his gold and jewels to the Gypsy then
returns to Fatima with the rest of his gold and jewels and starts his life with her.
