Cutting the Fabric

INSTRUCTIONS
1) Print the pattern on 8.5 x 11 inch paper. Make sure that the Test Square is 2 x 2 inches. Tape
the pieces together according to the outline included in the document. Cut out each piece of the
pattern following the solid black lines.
2) Cut out the fabric pieces following each pattern piece. “Cut on the fold” by folding the fabric in
half and placing the dotted line along the folded edge. Then, cut along the solid black lines so that
the final piece unfolds to be twice the size and symmetrical.

Sewing the Garment

1) Start with the two front chest pieces and fold the straight diagonal sides in twice by .5 inch to
create a rolled hem. Sew it down with a straight stitch.
2) Stack the front pieces on top of the front band with good sides facing each other so the curved
edges match up. Make sure the inner corners of the chest pieces are overlapping. Sew along the
curved with a zigzag stitch to maintain the stretch.
3) Stack the back piece on top of the front of the top with the good sides facing each other and pin
along the vertical edges. Sew along these edges with a zigzag stitch to complete the body of the
top.
4) Take the long strap piece and match the middle of it to the middle of the back panel. Fold the
strap in half around the top hem. Then fold the raw edges of the strap in again so the raw hem of
the shirt is inside the strap and the raw edges of the strap are also tucked in. The strap piece is
longer than the raw hem to form straps. For the pieces sticking out, maintain the same folds as the
rest of the strap. Pin and sew along the entire strap with a straight stitch
5) Take the extra strap sticking out of the top of the front pieces and attach them to the back of the
top to create straps.
6) Finally, hem the bottom of the shirt by folding the bottom edge up twice by .5 inch and sew it
with a straight stitch. Stretch the fabric while you sew to maintain stretch if necessary.
