Qualitative Research Methodology Overview

This study used qualitative research methods to understand the impact of profanity on the lifestyle of 15 randomly selected Grade 10 students from Gerona Junior College in Tarlac, Philippines. One-on-one interviews were conducted with open-ended questions to gather data on students' perspectives and experiences with profanity. Interviews took place at the school to make the sampling and data collection convenient. The researcher obtained informed consent from both students and school administration before conducting interviews.

CHAPTER 3

METHODOLOGY

Research Design

This study was made by means of qualitative methods of researcher. The

researcher attempted to get the answers to the aforementioned problem to justify and
satisfy the problems of the study. Likewise, it also attempted to know the different
impact to their lifestyle.

Qualitative method is used to understand people's beliefs, experiences,

attitudes, behaviour, and interactions. It generates non-numerical data. The integration
of qualitative research into intervention studies is a research strategy that is gaining
increased attention across disciplines. Although once viewed as philosophically
incongruent with experimental research, qualitative research is now recognized for its
ability to add a new dimension to interventional studies that cannot be obtained
through measurement of variables alone.(Gibson G, Timlin A, Wattis J. 2004)

According to Lynn Good, “Effectiveness comes from those qualitative things

that give you the ability to network, communicate, and lead people toward an
outcome they can’t see.” That’s why qualitative approach is appropriate for this study.

Population and Sample

The respondents of the study is composed of Grade 10 students of Gerona

Junior College. One of the important processes to keep the study successful. The
grade 10 students that will serve as the respondents of the study is chosen through
random sampling. This sampling method is conducted where each member has a
capability to become part of the study.

“Random sampling ensures that results obtained from your sample should

approximate what would have been obtained if the entire population had been
measured” (Shadish et al., 2002). The simplest random sample allows all the units in
the population to have an equal chance of being selected.
The chosen Grade 10 respondents are containing 15 Grade 10 students from
selected Grade 10 sections of Gerona Junior College the sections and the number of
students to be asked per section will be selected randomly by the researcher to make
sure that the chance of being part of the study is equal and not biased.

Locale of the Study

The study will take place in the school location of Gerona Junior College which
is on Barangay Poblacion 3, Gerona, Tarlac. The respondents asked to answers a set
of questions through an one on one interview with the researcher. The researcher
chose the place because it will be convenient to his/her sampling procedure and in
addition, the researcher chose the schools’ students because the researcher was
curious on the behaviour of his/her co-students as well as to he/want to contribute
some information in the phenomena of profanity.

Research Instrument

The researcher will be conducting and using a one on one interview as the tool
in data gathering for the study. The instrument to be prepared focused on answering
the statement of the problems. The different perspective of both Grade 10 students of
Gerona Junior College in speaking and receiving Profanity words. The researcher
formulated 3 questions to be asked to the respondents.

The data gathering instrument was structured with the set of questions that have
an open ended answer which means the respondents are free to answer based on the
feelings, experience, and understanding. This will help the researcher to analyse the
result of the data gathering.

Data Gathering Procedure

The informed consent will be given to the administration of the school. And a
personal consent will be asked by the researcher to ensure that the selected
respondents will be answering willingly and their right to decide whether to decline or
accept will not be violated. After an approval of the respondents and the school’s
administration, the researcher will start approaching and conducting the one on one
interview to each and every selected respondents. This will lead the researcher to gain
more information about the problem that can be useful for the study’s result.
