1. What does Huygen's Wave Theory of Light propose?

Huygen's proposed that light is a longitudinal wave in the aether medium - a medium that
pervades the entire universe. The set of particles oscillating in phase with each other is called
a wavefront. Point sources give out spherical wavefronts, while sources at infinity give plane
wavefronts.

2. How would you define Newton's Corpuscular Theory of Light?

Light is composed of very tiny, elastic and rigid particles called corpuscules.

3. Can you explain the concept of reflection of light?

Bouncing back of light rays after hitting any surface is called reflection of light. If the
surface is smooth and shiny, the light will reflect at the same angle at which it hits the
surface. This is called regular reflection and produces good images. If the surface is rough
and uneven, then some light rays may get absorbed, while others may reflect at varied angles,
called as irregular reflection.

4. What is the meaning of refraction of light?

When a light ray travels from one optical medium to another optical medium, it suffers a
change of direction at the surface of separation of the two media. This is known as refraction
of light. Refraction occurs due to the change in the speed of light in going from one medium
to another medium. When light travels from rarer to denser medium, that means when light
travels from air to glass, the refracted ray bends towards the normal. In this case, angle of
incidence would be greater than angle of refraction. If light ray travels from denser medium
to rarer medium, then it will bend away from the normal. Here, angle of incidence would be
less than the angle of refraction.

5. How would you describe the process of light propagation?

The process by which an electromagnetic wave transfers energy from one point to another
is referred to as light propagation. When light passes between boundaries from one medium
to another, three major processes occur; Transmission, Reflection and Refraction.
6. Compare and contrast the wave model and the particle model of light in explaining the
propagation, reflection, and refraction of light. Include at least three similarities and three
differences.
