CHAPTER SIX: SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS

6.1SUMMARY
The research before exploring the growth and impact of COCIN RCC
Mangun from 1940s to 2022, briefly explained the background of the study area
through interview and review of related works previously done which give the
people’s origin, culture as well as the researcher an insight of their political
setting from antiquity to the present. Therefore, the study came up with the
following findings:
The study revealed that Mangun is one of the earliest nine Districts of the
Mwaghavul chiefdom in Mangu Local Government headquarters.
The study also revealed that, Mwaghavul people with Mangun people
inclusive originated from the North East through Borno along with their
kinsmen Ngas, Goemai, Kofyar, Mupun, Tal, Chip, Yuok and many others.
They later settled at Ngung in Ngas Land for a while before they left to their
various destinations.
It is revealed that, before the advent of Christianity in the area, the people of
Mangun were practitioners of African Traditional Religion [ATR]. The political
organization of the people was basically matrilineal and democratic in nature
with a hierarchy of officials even up to date.
More so, the research reveals the sacrificial efforts made by the pionier
missionary bodies; Sudan United Mission [SUM] headed by Dr. H. K. W.
Kumm and the Cambridge University Party and the church Missionary society
[CMS] respectively where these two mission stations later handed their stations
to the SUM in 1930. Similarly, the work revealed the fervent effort made by the
local evangelists who brought Christianity to Mangun despite all challenges and
persecution they faced, but they withstand all these through the grace of God.
Moreover, the study revealed that, RCC Mangun was curved out of RCC
panyam and was formally inaugurated on the 28 th January, 2001 by the COCIN
President, Rev. Dr. Alexaner Lar, Rev. Istifanus Gukom was the pionier
chairman of the RCC and the work also reveals the formation of the Executive
Council [EC] members from 2001 to 2022 as well as the total number of the
thirty [30] LCCs and forty six [46] CCs that made up the RCC.
Finally, the research further revealed that, RCC Mangun, imoacted the host
communities in diverse ways such as: economically, educationally, socially,
politically and above all spiritually. Hence, improve the sources of livelihood of
the people.
6.2CONCLUTION
The growth and impact of COCIN RCC Mangun from 1940s to 2022 was as
a result of the solid foundation laid by the founding fathers, the pionier
missionaries of the Sudan United Mission [SUM] British branch, the
Cambridge University Party [CUP] and the Church Missionary Society [CMS]
as well as the sacrificial efforts made by the Local evangelists in reaching out to
the onreached where Mangun is a beneficiary. These foreign Missionaries and
th local evangelists work very hard as a team and within a short period of time,
they were able to win more souls for Christ. They were faced with different
challenges and persecutions by their relatives because they turned their backs
from worshipping African Traditional Religion [ATR] but they overcome all
these, through the saving grace of God. As a result of their hard work, the
church was rooted and stables in Mangun in the early 1940s which is the basis
for this research work.
Hence, as the church continue to blossom, the missionaries officially handed
over the church to the indegenouse church leadership on 1 st January, 1977. This
development enable the church to set up leadership positions from the
headquarters down to the church congregations [CCs] as well as other
departmental arms of the church.
The church leadership kept on with the vision and Mission of the founding
fathers initiated programmes and projects that impacted and have direct bearing
on the lives of its members in the areas of educational development, economic
development, social development, political development and above all the
spiritual needs of the people which is the primary priority of the church as
commanded by Jesus Christ in Mathew 28:19 – 20.
6.3RECOMMENDATIONS
The growth and impact of COCIN RCC Mangun from 1940s to 2022 have
been ex-rayed by this research work and based on the findings of this study, the
following recommendations are proffered for the benefit of all members of
COCIN RCC Mangun and indeed all Christians in Nigeria.
i. The church should be mission minded as commanded by Jesus Christ in
Mathew 28:19 – 20 and as demonstrated by the pionier missionaries and
the local evangelists in reaching out to the onreach with the Good News
of Christ.
ii. The church should always organize programmes and teachings for her
pastors, church elders, group leaders and members alike for them to see
the need in imbibing in the spirit of discipleship for the spiritual growth
of the church.
iii. The church should create a platform with its stakeholders and politicians
in the area to harness key areas that will promote skill acquisition for the
youth and women as well as promoting participation in politics so as
attract development in the community.
iv. The church should invest more on human development as initiated by the
early missionaries, in order to cater for the rapidly growing population of
the RCC for a holistic gospel. This is because, government has not done
enough in meeting the needs of the people in areas such as; economic
development, education, social development among others aspect of the
economy
v. The church should inaugurate a committee for publication initiative
project on the Advent, growth and impact of Christianity in Mangun land
to enable the future generation and researchers to appreciate the
sacrificial efforts put in place by the early missionaries, the local
evangelist and therefore fathers in seeing that the gospel seed is planted
and nurtured in Mangun.
6.4CONTRIBUTION TO KNOWLEDGE
The study examines and addresses multiple gaps and in doing so, makes
important contributions.
I. First, it brings to light the sacrificial effort made by the pionier
missionaries and Local evangelists particularly for the growth and
impact of the church to evangelism as demonstrated by the
missionaries and the local evangelist.
II. It also exposes the church to see the need for proper documentations
of events within and outside the church. It gives room for the church
to impact more on human development to their host communities.
Furthermore, this work will challenge those that are highly place in
the society and the politicians to do more in bringing development to
their door step or communities.
6.5SUGGESTION FOR FURTHER STUDIES
The researcher acknowledge the fact that this research work was not
exhaustive, as it did not cover all the RCCs in PCC Panyam and RCCs in
COCIN in particular, therefore, similar research should be carried out on the
growth and impact of COCIN Church in Nigeria or worldwide. The study
can be replicated in other RCCs in the PCC and other PCCs in COCIN as
well. This will help in bringing the true position of the growth and impact of
our churches in different communities in Plateau state and in Nigeria atlarge.
