Assertion and Reasoning Questions

Two statements are given, one labelled as Assertion (A) and the other is labelled as Reason
(R). Select the correct answer to these questions form the code (a), (b), (c), and (d) as given
below.
a) Both Assertion (A) and Reason (R) are true and Reason (R) is the correct explanation
of the Assertion (A).
b) Both Assertion (A) and Reason (R) are true, but Reason (R) is not the correct
explanation of Assertion (A).
c) Assertion (A) is true, but Reason(R) is false.
d) Assertion (A) is false, but Reason(R) is true.

1) Assertion (A): The number 6𝑛 never end with digit zero for any natural number 𝑛.
Reason (R): The number 9𝑛 never end with digit zero for any natural number 𝑛.
2) Assertion (A): The polynomial 𝑃(𝑥) = 𝑥 2 + 3𝑥 + 3 has two real zeroes.
Reason (R): A quadratic polynomial can have at most two real zeroes.
3) Assertion (A): The equation 8𝑥 2 + 3𝑘𝑥 + 2 = 0 has equal roots, then the value of 𝑘 is
8
± 3.
Reason (R): The equation 𝑎𝑥 2 + 𝑏𝑥 + 𝑐 = 0 has equal roots, if 𝐷 = 𝑏 2 − 4𝑎𝑐 = 0.
4) Assertion (A): The 𝐻𝐶𝐹 of two number is 9 and their 𝐿𝐶𝑀 is 2016. If one number is 54,
then the other number is 336.
Reason (R): Relation between numbers and their 𝐻𝐶𝐹 and 𝐿𝐶𝑀 is product of two
numbers 𝑎 × 𝑏 = 𝐻𝐶𝐹(𝑎, 𝑏) × 𝐿𝐶𝑀(𝑎, 𝑏).
5) Assertion (A): The roots of quadratic equation 𝑥 2 + 2𝑥 + 2 = 0 are imaginary.
Reason (R): If the discriminant 𝐷 = 𝑏 2 − 4𝑎𝑐 < 0, then the roots of the quadratic
equation 𝑎𝑥 2 + 𝑏𝑥 + 𝑐 = 0 are imaginary.
6) Assertion (A): 𝑥 2 + 𝑥 has only one real zero.
Reason (R): A Polynomial of 𝑛𝑡ℎ degree must have 𝑛 real zeroes.
7) Assertion (A): If 𝐻𝐶𝐹 of 510 and 92 is 2, then the 𝐿𝐶𝑀 of 510 & 92 is 32460.
Reason(R): As 𝑎 × 𝑏 = 𝐻𝐶𝐹(𝑎, 𝑏) × 𝐿𝐶𝑀(𝑎, 𝑏).
8) Assertion(A): The probability of an event that cannot happen or which is impossible, is
equal to zero.
Reason(R): The probability lies between 0 and 1. Hence, it cannot be negative
9) Assertion(A): If 𝑃(𝐸) = 0.07, then its probability of ‘𝑛𝑜𝑡 𝐸’ is 0.93
Reason(R): 𝑃(𝐸) + 𝑃(𝑛𝑜𝑡 𝐸) = 1
10) Assertion(A): The probability of getting a bad egg in a lot of 400 is 0.035. The number of
bad eggs in the lot is 14.
Reason(R): If the probability of an event is 𝑝, the probability of its complementary event
will be 1 − 𝑝.
