1. This assignment is to be done in a group of a maximum of 4 students.
2. All submissions must be in ENGLISH.
3. Delay in submission shall be treated as NON-SUBMISSION.
4. The poster size is A1 paper.
5. A verbal group presentation will be conducted on WEEK 13.

ASSIGNMENT 2 OUTCOMES:

Students should be able to integrate written reports (poster presentation) and verbal forms on the
related essential management, construction manager’s skills, attributes, roles and responsibilities
at the managerial level, site planning and method statement (human resource, material, and plant
management), motivation theory approaches, project controlling and current software in
construction project management for the relevant case study of actual project implementation
(CLO3).

ASSIGNMENT 2:

PROJECT PROPOSAL:

Infrastructure projects are one of the significant construction categories in the development of the
Malaysian construction Industry. Malaysia is among the South-East Asian nations that have pledged
to spend billions on infrastructure developments, as the country seeks to further boost its economic
prominence. The government has allocated billions of ringgits for infrastructure developments, for
example; Kuala Lumpur-Singapore HSR express rail, Pan Borneo highway, Klang Valley MRT project,
KTMB train branch lines, telecommunication towers, electricity towers and ports. Proposed an
example of an infrastructure development project in Malaysia for your project references. As a
project management consultant or design and build contractor, your tasks are as follows:

Area 1: PROJECT AND HEAD OFFICE ORGANISATION


Propose an organisation chart for your proposed project showing the head office setup (from the top
management right to the level of the subordinates) and the project site organisation team. You need to
show the inter-relationship between the different levels of departments and the roles and
responsibilities of the selected personnel in these sets up.

Area 2: SITE PLANNING/MANAGEMENT


Propose simple sketches using any appropriate software showing the site layout planning of a
proposed construction site. Provide a brief report on the overall site management, including the site
office, materials storage, traffic flows, plant location, etc. Provide in table format one example of a
method statement for building works that are related to your proposed project.

Area 3: PROJECT MANAGER’S SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES


Discuss the scope of work of a construction manager and the necessary skills of a project
manager/construction manager to carry out the job effectively. Propose one motivation theory
approach to motivate the management team.

Area 4: PROJECT CONTROLLING AND APPLICATION OF PROJECT SOFTWARE


Propose an appropriate type of project controlling and select the best two types of project management
softwares for managing the project effectively and smoothly. Your proposal should elaborate on the
advantages and disadvantages, features, and criteria of the software.
