OPGW Overview
PPC creates leading-edge technologies that offer growth opportunities in markets that fuel the world’s economy.
While the utilization of Optical Ground-Wire (OPGW) solutions is gaining momentum worldwide, this technology
is widely used in power transmission utilities and large power plants, and by telecom service providers planning
to merge existing power line infrastructure for their long haul/access communication networks. This is because
OPGW technology makes it possible to have data transmission through electrical transmission lines, thereby
eliminating concerns related to Right of Way.

 OPGW Metallic Joint Closure
After extensive research and development, PPC is
introducing the PGCIL-approved Metallic Joint Closure,
designed for the OPGW distribution and transmission
network along High Voltage Transmission lines. The OPGW
Metallic Joint Closure is a single-ended closure system
specifically developed for use on the optical grounding wires
of overhead electrical power lines. The closure is suitable
for use above ground and can be attached to high voltage
towers, poles, walls or other support structures. The OPGW
Metallic Joint Closure is made with aluminum alloys capable
of resisting electromagnetic induction and can withstand
high ambient temperatures.

 2U Rackmount Patch Panel
2U Patch Panels are used for termination and management of
fiber backbone and equipment cables in central office and bulk
fiber distribution systems. They serve as the interface between
field cables and equipment. Cables may be terminated direct
or after splicing. The patch panels allow for internal fiber
management through cable spooling with a minimum bend
radius and stackable splice trays. Rack mounted versions are
designed for flange mounting on 19 inch racks.

Wall Mount Enclosure 48F/96F

The PPC Wall Mount Enclosure is used for the splitting or
termination of fiber service connection in FTTx networks and
distributions rooms in OPGW networks where the port counts
are up to 96F. Separate access with individual lock and key
doors are provided for cable termination and splice (input) areas
to restrict subscriber access. The enclosure is fabricated from
carbon steel, pre-treated, and painted with enamel or powder-
coating to ensure corrosion resistance. It includes provisions
direct mounting onto wall surfaces and is finished in the standard
colors of Siemens Gray or Black, with other colors upon request.

 Fiber Optic Distribution Panel (FODP)
The PPC Fiber Optic Distribution Panel (FODP) is PGCIL-
approved and designed to provide protection for the fiber
splicing of pre-connectorized pigtails and to accommodate
connectorized termination and coupling of fiber optic cables.
The FODP offers easy-to-operate splice organizers made to
protect fiber bend losses. The FODP is made from CRCA or
GI Steel and is RoHS compliant to ensure it is resistant to
corrosive environments.

This FODP is suitable for mounting in harsh conditions at

substations. The IP55-rated (as per IS/IEC 60529) FODP
is suitable to terminate the fiber optic approach cables that
run from the OPGW Metallic Joint Closures on transmission
towers.

The FODP has been tested for its performance in real-life

situations and passes third-party test certifications.

The FODP can be shipped in different combinations as per

customer specific requirements. The 19” standard steel
cabinet can be pre-loaded with any type of standard fiber
optic adapter or connector types.

PPC also offers standard OPGW accessories along with the

Metallic Joint Closure and the FODP.
