Retrofit Saved Time and Money

The Calcasieu refinery received a total

replacement, commissioning and
calibration of their digital open field-
based system. This retrofit saved 75% of
the time and 1/3 the cost when compared
to upgrading with PLC or DCS systems
and hardwiring.

Control system retrofit included TURCK cabling with weather-tight
quick-disconnect fittings and branch blocks or “bricks” designed for use
with FOUNDATION ™ fieldbus applications.
Quick-Disconnect Cables Ease Workload for Instrument Technicians

As a startup enterprise developing high-technology materials, Nanophase

Technologies explored many avenues for reducing engineering and construction
costs. Adhering to Class I Division 2 hazardous area classification required time
consuming and expensive wiring installation. Engineers were open to new ideas,
but unwilling to cut corners on quality or safety. An alternative connection method
was implemented by using quick-disconnect cordsets manufactured by TURCK
developed to conform to Class I Division 2 requirements.

Quick-Disconnect Junctions and Cordsets Reduce Time To Production

Upgrading your process automation control system to a digital fieldbus or

HART ®/analog network improves plant operations by expediting product
changes and higher output. You can significantly benefit from a process
automation upgrade by replacing hundreds of hardwired I/O points to
quick-disconnect cables with molded connectors.

Quick-Disconnect Solutions for 4-20 mA Control Loop and HART Protocols

Not ready for a fieldbus system? Utilize HART diagnostic capabilities with wiring consolidation
built for HART/analog control systems. Quick-disconnect wiring products, built to HART
protocol electrical specifications will also work with analog control systems and provide RFI/EMI
protection.

Drop cables, instrument receptacles and junction boxes with homerun cables can reduce multiple
cable runs and help eliminate confusion and mis-wiring when installing, maintaining and replacing
sensors, thermocouples and PLC/DCS cards.
A Junction Box or Hub for Every Application
Custom Junction Boxes

TURCK’s wide variety of process connectivity products are engineered to

deliver significant benefits from quick-disconnect wiring consolidation.

Modular designs manufactured in the USA enable TURCK to efficiently

provide creative custom product solutions to handle difficult applications.

Junction Boxes for Analog and HART ® Signals

Analog loops in harsh process industry applications pose difficult

challenges for quick-disconnect technology. TURCK’s process
connectivity products are up to the task with stainless steel
receptacles that add quick-disconnect functionality to transmitters
and other field devices. Junction boxes and cordsets designed for
analog and HART loops simplify cabling from multiple devices
to the control room.

Junction boxes are available in compact, glass-filled

nylon or powder-coated die-cast aluminum housings
with 4 or 8-ports. Each port connector includes
conductors for shield, ground and signal pair. Cable
products are ITC/PLTC rated and have controlled capacitance
and inductance for predictable HART communications.

Junction Bricks for Discrete Signals

Junction bricks consolidate wiring from proximity sensors and

other isolated low-level discrete I/O applications that do not
require shielding. Without shielding or ground conductors, the junction
bricks will economically serve discrete loops.

Available in 4-port with one or two signals per port, each version is
manufactured with the choice of common positive or isolated circuits.

Also available are associated drop or home-run cords and splitters that are
PLTC/ITC rated with threaded receptacles for quick-disconnect functionality.
Physical Layer Products No Matter the Protocol
FOUNDATION ™ fieldbus and PROFIBUS ®-PA

FOUNDATION fieldbus and PROFIBUS-PA are device level protocols developed for use in process
control applications. Both allow the supply of bus power and communications on a 2-wire cable.

TURCK busstop ® products provide reliable, fast and flexible options for interconnecting devices
on H1 bus networks in harsh process environments. These products are rapidly becoming
installation standards supported by leading fieldbus equipment suppliers.

Rugged junction boxes are available in 4, 6 or 8-port sizes and may be mounted in difficult
environments with optional stainless steel hardware.

DeviceNet ™, PROFIBUS ®-DP and

AS-interface ® Physical Media Products

busstop DeviceNet, PROFIBUS and AS-interface

products are designed for tough industrial
applications. Passive junction boxes, pre-molded
cables, receptacles, tees and terminators simplify the
installation of these digital networks in your facility.

Industrial Ethernet

Ethernet is the physical layer and data-link layer protocol defined in IEEE 802.3.
Process automation applications require more robust connector systems than
those intended for the office. busstop products lead the way by adopting the
industrial standard M12 eurofast ® connector.

busstop industrial ethernet switches provide 4 or 8 M12 quick-disconnect ports

and an uplink port. The switches comply with IEEE 802.3 10 Base-T Ethernet
and IEEE 802.3 100 Base-TX Fast Ethernet standards.
The Right Connectivity for Your Application
The Right Industry

TURCK develops connectivity products for numerous industries. With hundreds of different cables designed for special
applications, we can provide a connectivity component to meet your needs.

The Right Bus Technology

You are not limited to one fieldbus technology. TURCK puts real meaning into “interchangeability” with our selection
of connectivity products. Specifically, we offer device-level stations, junctions and cable products for DeviceNet ™,
PROFIBUS ®-(DP, PA, FMS) FOUNDATION ™ fieldbus, Ethernet, Interbus™, Modbus+™, HART ® and more.

The Right Physical Layer

TURCK bus and drop cables provide low inductance and capacitance to minimize
propagation delay with specially designed foil shields that protect against noise. Each cable
jacket and conductor insulation is designed to meet specific communications protocols and
conform to NEC ITC, ITC-MC and ITC open wiring rules.

The Right Specifications for Environmental Conditions

For extreme conditions, or as an alternative to conduit, interlocking aluminum armor cable

with oil/UV resistant PVC cable jackets are available. We also produce cables for extreme
environments, such as thermoset and thermoplastic rubber, special construction PVC
and polyurethane (PUR). The cable‘s rugged design withstands difficult applications with
extreme temperature changes, continuous flexing and/or exposure to chemicals and sunlight
that challenge the integrity of the cable/connection.

The Right Industrial Connector - From Fieldbus Standards to Hybrid Solutions

Fully molded multiple pin connectors from the M5 pentafast ® to the M23 multifast ® thread
size. Industry standard connections for fieldbus applications include the 7/8-16 UN minifast ®
and the M12 eurofast ® threads.

The Right Protection Class/Approvals for the Application

TURCK connectivity products meet the following ratings: NEMA 1, 3, 4, 4X, 6 & 6P, IEC protection class IP
40, IP 65, IP 67 and IP 68. Jacket approvals include CSA, UL MSHA. For offshore applications, TURCK‘s
extremelife ™ cables carry both DNV and ABS ratings.

TURCK‘s products are also certified by FM and CSA for use in hazardous locations. Class I Division 1,
Intrinsically Safe; Class I Division 2, non-incendive; Class I Division 2, explosion proof. Refer to control
