BITUMEN REMOVAL and CLEANING MAINTENANCE

for

BITUMEN SUPPLY VEHICLES

(SUBSTITUTING KEROSENE with BARC)

KEROSENE.

The traditional and widely accepted method for cleaning down trucks with BITUMEN accumulation is by
spraying kerosene or diesel to loosen and hopefully remove the product. It is also used to clean out nozzles
on spray bars and assists in the removal of tank sludge.

Invariably an extremely time consuming process, where downtime on a truck can run to 8 hours and use
over 30 litres of kerosene in the process. This unnecessarily exposes your staff to toxic fumes from a
flammable hydrocarbon with associated health and safety concerns (see product description below).

Cleaning a truck with Kerosene is labour intensive and results in a multitude of additional problems down
the line which involve even greater costs in solving them.

Specifically these involve:

a) Expensive and unnecessary recycling and disposal methods.

b) Installed oil and kerosene separators have to deal with the liquid mix and sludge.

c) Separating the kero from the bitumen and recycling both products, with toxic waste needing to be
transported off site.

d) Floor drains invariably clog up and need mechanical cleaning to remove sludge.

e) This volatile situation requires careful and safe handling practices with regular mechanical
maintenance schedules to follow.

f) Collateral damage is also experienced by truck radiators sucking in bitumen particles, this condition
requires monitoring and periodically requiring removal and cleaning with further downtime.

BARC: THE ALTERNATIVE.

A recently developed vegetable oil based alternative addresses all of the issues and disadvantages of
Kerosene, some of which we have outlined above.

Advantages include:

1) Cleaning time reduced 400 % from 8 hours to <2 hours

2) Fogging applicator reduces volume of BARC used to 6 litres per truck.

3) Rinsed off with water and not kerosene.

4) No scrubbing required.
5) No necessity to remove radiator to clean.

6) Spray bars and sludge cleared and cleaned with BARC. Residue does not affect bitumen
performance or stability.

7) No toxic fumes, safe to use. Non flammable.

8) BARC immediately emulsifies and becomes inert once water rinse starts

9) Simple separation process where bitumen is skimmed off and recycled while the BARC/water
emulsion is pumped to sewer.

10) Settlement tanks effectively managed with Bioaugmentation process to break down hydrocarbons to
carbon dioxide and water.

11) No requirement for expensive kerosene recycling and storage tanks.

12) Flammability risks involving cleaning material now reduced to zero.

13) Health and safety matters and public/ employee liability now easily managed.

14) Floor drains free of bitumen, requirement only to remove solids
