Shuttle billing using RFID
Problem
VIT students frequently make
use of air-conditioned shuttles
as a form of commute across
campus. Availing this service
costs Rs. 15 per passenger per
trip. Currently, a QR code is
placed near the door, which the
passengers can scan and use to
make a UPI payment for their
trip. However, due to the large
number of passengers entering
and leaving, some passengers
are able to exit without payment.
This leads to loss of revenue for
the shuttles.
Existing Alternatives
Currently, the shuttle driver may
ask the passenger to show proof
of payment before allowing them
to leave, but a commonly used
workaround is showing
screenshots of past payments.

Solution
We propose the use of RFID
scanners, which would be used
to scan the ID card of the
passenger upon entering the
shuttle. This can be linked to
their college portal account or
any other profile, and a tally of
their fee can be maintained
digitally.
