questions.

Abstraction
ELEMENTS OF ART – The visual components of color, form line, shape, space,
texture, and value.
1. LINE - An element of art by a point moving in space. Line may be two-or
three-dimensional, descriptive, implied, or abstract.
2. SHAPE - An element of art that is two-dimensional, flat, or limited to height
and width
3. FORM - An element of art that is three dimensional and encloses volume;
includes height, width and depth (as in a cube, a sphere, a pyramid, or a
cylinder). Form may also be free flowing.
4. VALUE - The lightness or darkness of tones or colors.
5. SPACE - An element of art by which positive and negative areas are defined
or as sense of depth achieved in a work of art.
6. COLOR - An element of art made up of three properties: hue, value, and
intensity.
o Hue: name of color
o Value: hue’s lightness and darkness (a color’s value changes
when white or black is added.
o Intensity: quality of brightness and purity
High intensity = color is strong and bright.
Low intensity = color is faint and dull
7. TEXTURE - An element of art that refers to the way things feel, or look as
if they might feel it touched.

PRINCIPLES OF ART – Balance, emphasis, movement, proportion, rhythm,

unity, and variety; the means an artist uses to organize elements within a work of
art.
1. Balance – is the sense of stability achieved through implied weight of an
object. There are three different types of balance:
 Symmetrical balance – when one image is mirrored on the other
side to repeat itself.
 Asymmentrical balance – when different types of elements create a
visual balance.
 Radial balance – is the distribution of elements around a central
point in all directions.
2. Emphasis (contrast) – A way of combining elements to stress the
differences between those elements.
3. Movement – is the visual flow of an artwork.
4. Proportion – A principle of design that refers to the relationship of certain
elements to the whole and to each other.
5. Rhythm – is a principle of design that suggests movement or action; it is
usually achieved through repetition of lines, shapes and colors.
6. Unity - in artwork creates a sense of harmony and wholeness, by using
similar elements within the composition and placing them in a way that
brings them all together.
7. Variety – adds interest by using contrasting elements within the
composition.

Application
 The teacher will ask the students to draw something that show some of the elements
and principle of arts.

IV. Evaluation
