Christmas is one of my favorite holidays it’s a feast of Christ’s birth and and since I'm from

Ukraine, I celebrate on the eve of 7th of January. This is the holiday of joy. The Christmas
Eve for me is the most interesting part of Christmas as it has ritual and magic acts aimed at
ensuring a good harvest and a life of plenty. There are many traditions associated with
Christmas, but the most important rituals that my family follow regularly are Christmas dinner
and Christmas caroling. You fast all day and start eating the meal when the first star is seen
in the sky. Family cook Christmas dinner consisting of 12 fasting dishes that symbolize 12
apostles. The main dish is kutia (a mix of boiled grains, honey, nuts, poppy seeds, and other
toppings). This dish is usually eaten first and it is very tasty. After the meal, people sing
carols or 'Koliadky', and it’s often accompanied by a puppet theatre (vertep). Аnd of course
every year my friends and I visit houses singing carols. This is probably one of the most
interesting moments of this evening. The religious festival lasts three days and involves
Christmas liturgies, caroling, visiting and entertaining relatives and acquaintances.
Christmas is the holiday when all members of the family gather together.
It has a really good atmosphere, it's a little different than Poland Christmas. We don't give
presents for Ukrainian Christmas
