INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVE: At the end of the episode, the students are expected
to identify the correct opinion-marking signals to complete the given
sentences.
5 Welcome to our school tv program, where you can learn English lessons
6 with fun! I am teacher Fanny, I’m happy to guide you in another interesting
10 TEACHER: Before we begin, let me congratulate you for doing your best in the
14 TEACHER: All right! Let’s have a quick recall of the previous lesson. Last time,
16 Relationship? (PAUSE)

2 They are ways of presenting in a simple and attractive manner to catch the
3 reader’s interest. And you already learned that these illustrations help
5 charts.
6 I know you are all excited to learn. So, I will not keep you waiting. Don’t
10 TEACHER: Today, you will learn another interesting topic. You are expected to
14 TEACHER: Did you notice the introductory phrases, such as I think, I believe, I
15 feel, and I hope? Do you have any idea what these words could mean?
16 (PAUSE) Well, these are kinds of introductory phrases are called opinion-
17 marking signals.
19 TEACHER: Let’s start with answering the question: What are opinions?
21 about how someone feels, thinks, or takes a stand about something. They
emotions,
1 and preferences. Others may agree or disagree with opinions, but they
3 TEACHER: What are opinions again? (PAUSE) Nice! You are, indeed, listening.
4 Next question is: Do you have any idea about opinion-marking signals?
5 (PAUSE) They are group of words that introduces opinions. Aside from
6 that, they are also used as signal words that will help express and identify
7 opinions. And because they are introductory phrases, they are usually
13 TEACHER: Okay? Let’s start! Let’s read them together! Maybe…, I think…, I
20 TEACHER: This time, you are going to understand more about them as we read

1 Are you ready to read? (PAUSE) Very good! Let’s start from sentence (a): I feel
2 happy about being a Filipino. This sentence uses the opion marking signal I
3 FEEL. It tells about a personal feeling of being a Filipino. How about this
4 sentence? (b) It seems that Filipinos have strong family ties. (PAUSE) You
7 way. Next. (c) From what I know, Filipinos are known to be hospitable. The
10 background. Then we have the next sentence (d) Personally, I think that
13 nature. Now, let’s have this. (e) Maybe Filipinos are resilient because they
14 find ways to survive. This sentence uses the opinion-marking signal MAYBE
19 based on a real and first-hand experience. Let’s try another one, (g) I hope
20 Filipino children will continue to respect their elders by saying “po” and
21 “opo”. What do you think is the opinion-marking signal? (PAUSE) All right.
2 the Filipinos that when you respect others, they will respect you as well. This
6 TEACHER: Well done, Grade 8 learners! You’re doing great! So, take note of the
8 words or phrases are used in different manners and for different purposes.
9 However, there are certain opinion-marking signals that can be used in the
10 same manner and for the same purpose, like maybe and probably, based on
12 that.
14 TEACHER: Let’s have this picture. What opinions can you share about the
15 picture? (PAUSE) Well, you can come up with opinions by answering the
20 TEACHER: Now, let’s read together the opinions given in the module as answers

19 the beginning part of the sentence. In general, opinions are made with the
2 signals? (PAUSE) That’s definitely right! It’s really important because it will add

7 TEACHER: So, that ends our recap. It means that you are now ready to answer
8 our short quiz for today. I hope you still have your pen and your paper with

is I should. I should stay at home for me to be safe during this pandemic. And
for the last sentence, the correct answer is I hate. I hate reading fake news
TEACHER: That’s it for our short exercise today. That concludes our discussion
