6 can be accessed easily from books, newspapers, radio, and television.

7 It can also be said that your life as a student is quite comfortable

8 because information is within your reach in just one click due to the

9 advancement of technology. Students like you can get relevant

10 information from different sources of information such as news reports,

11 speeches, informative talks, and panel discussions. The information

12 you’ve got from different sources of information can be used in your

10 everyday life. With many sources of information that surround you, your

11 problem now is how to get the most important details which you can

13 apply in your everyday life. That is the reason why this module is

12 specifically made for you so that you will learn some tips on how to get

13 information from these sources. Well to understand it better, I will now

11 introduce our Radio Teacher in English, Sir Jedrick Paul Frilles from

14 Alawihao National High School.

2 RADIO TEACHER: Good morning, Grade 10 students. Today, is another day

3 of school over the radio. I am happy to be with you as we

4 discuss our lesson on using information from news reports, speeches,

5 Informative talks, panel discussions in everyday life. Do you have

6 your modules now? Are you ready with your pen and paper?

7 Since this is the first day of our school on the air, let me give you

8 some reminders about how to use the module.

10 Alright , Before you start your learning adventure, please try to answer

11 first task, Activity one page two on your modules. This task will give

12 you an overview of what you will learn as you go along the way to

13 this module. Make sure to finish this task. I will guide you in answering.

19 Can you still recall the different sources of information you had learned

1 when you were in Grade 9? Let’s find out how well you remember

2 them by answering Activity Two, Who’s My Match, page 3 on your

3 modules. This time, you are going to match the meaning found

4 in Column A to the words found in Column B. Write only the letter of

5 your answer on the space provided. I will still be with you in answering

6 the task. Good Luck! Here we go!

7 For the first item, It tends to educate the audience on a particular

8 topic. It helps the audience understand a subject better and to

9 remember what they learned later.

17 you will encounter in the text.

1 Number One. The italicized word is pontiff. Now, by reading the

2 sentence, guess its meaning. (PAUSE)

3 Are you done? Great! Pontiff means a Religious Leader or a Leader of

4 Roman Catholics or a Pope you would say.

5 Moving on, the second italicized word is resiliency, now what do you

6 mean by resiliency based on how it was in the sentence? (PAUSE)

7 Resiliency would mean being able to find ways to build their life again

8 after suffering from calamities. Yes! There it is in the sentence.

9 Did you get it? Very Good! Now I will let you do the rest on your own.

13 understand the news report. You can also check your dictionary if you

14 encountered some words which are still unfamiliar

3 information from a news report, I want you to listen carefully as I

4 discuss the different sources of information and some tips to help you

5 more on how you can get important details from a news report,

6 speeches, panel discussions, and informative talks. And please make it

7 a point to familiarize yourselves with these sources of information.

9 Kinds of Sources of Information (PAUSE)

10 News Reports. They are found in newspapers, televisions, or radios

11 which aim to inform the readers of what is happening in the world

12 around them. (REPEAT) ,

13 Next is Panel Discussions. It is a live or virtual discussion about a

14 specific topic amongst a selected group of panelists who share differing

15 perspectives in front of a large audience. (REPEAT)

16 Then we have, Speeches. It refers to the formal address or discourse

17 delivered to an audience. (REPEAT)

18 Lastly we have, Informative Talks. It tends to educate the audience on

19 a particular topics. It helps the audience understand a subject better

1 Alright! Now, getting information from these different sources of

2 information is very important for a student like you. For you to be able

3 to identify the most important details from the articles you have read,

4 you must learn to use different reading techniques.

5 The following discussions dealt with four reading techniques, which you

6 must be aware of so that you can decide which technique is most

7 suited for the reading task assigned to you by your teacher.

8 As a twenty first learner, you must train yourself in using these four

9 reading techniques since it will help you get reliable and important

10 information from different sources that you can use in your everyday

11 life. This time I will let you read on your own. The Different Reading

12 Techniques is found on pages seven and eight on your modules.
