What are the main factors affecting English performances for NEU students

There are many factors that affect students' English learning, they need to learn quickly to catch
up with current requirements. In order to adapt to seeing English as a second language, teachers
have a great influence on students.
The learning environment plays a very important role in learning English. The teaching process
includes two people in the classroom, the teacher and the learner, and learning English does not
depend entirely on the teacher. Students also have to take more responsibility for the learning
process (Quist, 2000).
In the learning process, teachers always play an important role because teachers provide
specialized knowledge of grammar, vocabulary, etc. With appropriate teaching methods, students
will master the knowledge. knowledge and develop skills. To create a positive learning
environment, teachers often encourage students to discuss and play games related to English. It is
clear from the literature that learning is led by the teacher (Allen and Valette, 1997).
Attitude plays an important role in students' English learning. Attitude refers to the set of beliefs
that learners hold towards members of the target group and also towards their own culture
(Brown, 2000). A positive attitude and willingness to learn will help students absorb knowledge
better and progress faster. In particular, an optimistic, patient and open attitude will help students
overcome difficulties and not be afraid of making mistakes when learning English.
In addition, a confident attitude and willingness to challenge are also important in language
learning. With a positive attitude, students will dare to speak English, participate in
communication activities and not be afraid to make mistakes. This helps them practice speaking
and listening skills more effectively. Attitudes are positively correlated with success in second
language learning because they facilitate motivated learners to learn the language (Gardner &
Trembly, 1994). If students have a negative attitude, fear or distrust in their abilities, learning
English may become more difficult. Negative attitudes will affect your ability to learn,
communicate and progress in acquiring new knowledge.
Motivation is the most commonly used learning concept to explain the success or failure of
learning. Motivation not only affects learning English, but can also bring great benefits to a
student's all-round personal development. It helps to improve self-management, communication
skills, problem-solving abilities. One of the important factors affecting the success or speed of
English learners is motivation (The Gardner, 2006).
Learning and motivation are equally important to achievement, allowing students to acquire new
knowledge and skills. In addition, motivation provides the impetus to demonstrate what we have
learned and people with higher motivation will learn better and have higher qualifications. It
helps students increase their ability to focus on studying, persevere and not give up when facing
difficulties. This is very important to develop students' English skills over time.
4. What are common methods used by NEU students when learning English?

Self-study method is an important and effective method for students. Set clear goals and possible
tools about what you want to achieve from self-study. Make a study plan in line with the set
goals. Determine when, where, and how to access the learning material. Build a clear schedule
and monitor it. Detail learning at specific times of the day and week. Use a variety of resources
such as books, articles, online materials, instructional videos, etc. and make sure they align with
your learning goals. Organize work and tasks prioritizing study tasks according to your
management time. Waste time and stay focused during the learning process. Learn to summarize,
take notes, ask questions, and organize knowledge logically. Find the right learning method for
you to increase learning efficiency. Periodically review learned material to reinforce and
maintain understanding. Plan to review and test your knowledge on a regular basis.
To improve your English speaking you can find classmates or fellow students who have the same
goal of learning English and practicing speaking. Taking regular action with others helps you
improve your vocabulary, grammar, and confidence. Please watch English movies, TV shows or
videos with subtitles and try to repeat the phrases or sentences heard. Try participating in
discussions, presentations or presentation clubs in English. This helps you practice your speaking
skills and confidently present your ideas in front of a group of people.
To improve your English listening skills, you need to be patient and practice regularly. Start with
the easy ones and work your way up to the more difficult ones as you feel more confident. Listen
to English-language resources such as English radio stations, podcasts, songs, videos or movies.
Listen to these sources regularly to become familiar with different intonations, voices, and styles
of expression. Look for listening lessons with a variety of topics and difficulty levels. Listen to
English songs and watch movies with English subtitles. This helps you familiarize yourself with
intonation, listening reflexes and vocabulary through real-life situations. When listening, create
an environment that you love to focus on listening. Turn off the noise sources and give maximum
focus on learning English. Focus on understanding and repeating what you hear. This improves
your reflexes and pronunciation.
Try to read English every day to familiarize yourself with the grammatical structure and
vocabulary, improve the ability to understand sentence structure and semantics. Read a variety of
texts such as books, newspapers, magazines and other materials, to improve cultural knowledge
and expand vocabulary. When reading, take notes of important points, new words, and main
ideas of texts. Then the content summary is based on these notes. This process will help you
increase your ability to understand and remember information. Make it a habit to write every
day, by journaling, bye-bye, or even by blogging. Writing regularly will help you practice
organizing skills, improve grammar and vocabulary. Once you're done writing, take the time to
re-read and edit your writing. Check for grammatical errors, memorized words and check
sentence structure to ensure accuracy and clarity.
