Recommendations for External Tie-Bar and External

Power Steering

Tie Bar
For dual engine installation boats with a top speed in excess of 52 knots.
A combination of internal and external tie-bars is required. An external tie bar
must never be used as the only tie-bar, but must always be used in
combination with and internal tie-bar.

External Power Steering

External power steering system is required on boats with a top speed of more
than 60 knots or any application where the boat and sterndrive may
occasionally become airborne.
External tie-bar and external power steering system can be obtained from
aftermarket marine suppliers.

Caution
The following instructions will provide a sterndrive unit mounting locations that
are suitable for most boats. The best mounting location for a particular boat
however, can only be determined by testing.

The recommended "X" dimensions can be raised for performance installations. If

a higher "X" dimension is chosen, there is a risk of ventalating propellers. The use
of stainless steel propellers may be required.

All installations within a boat manufacturer's line are subject to verification by

actual tests per A.B.Y.C (American Boat and Yacht Council) and N.M.M.A.
