Assessment Assignment 3: Descriptive Writing

Weightage 20%
Course outcomes to achieve:
CLO 4 – Produce written work using correct writing techniques
Assessment Components :
1. Essay Outline – 5 marks
2. Essay – 15 marks

Individual Task: Descriptive Essay

1. Choose a title based on the given list in Appendix A.

2. Next, brainstorm and produce an outline for your essay. The outline should be in
complete sentences and must consist the following components:
i) Introduction
- Thesis Statement
ii) Main Body
- Topic Sentences/ Main Ideas
- Supporting Details
iii) Conclusion

3. Based on the outline produced, write a descriptive essay in about 350 words using Font
Times New Romans, Arial or Calibri, size 11 or 12 and 1.5-spacing. Make sure that your essay
consists of details (descriptions) which will appeal to the five (5) senses. You are encouraged to
use similes and metaphors in your essay.

4. Attach a cover page (Appendix B) with the following information on it:

i) Semester
ii) Course Name & Code
iii) Group
iv) The title of the essay
v) Name & Student ID No.
vi) Lecturer’s Name

5. Please print the cover page on a piece of coloured paper according to the colour assigned to your
group.
