Ratio (Everything Changed)

Under this concept, both the items changed by different amounts. Hence, everything changed!

Let’s learn how to use Units and Parts to solve this question.

Example 1

The ratio of Derrick’s money to Jeric’s money was 2 : 1. After Derrick saved another $60 and Jeric spent
$150, the ratio became 4 : 1. How much money did Derrick have at first?

Before Change After

Derrick 2u +60 2u + 60

Jeric 1u -150 1u – 150

2u + 60 : 1u – 150

=4 : 1

4 × (1u – 150) = 1 × (2u + 60)

4u – 600 = 2u + 60

2u = 600 + 60

2u = $660 (Ans)
