Hardware Architecture
Based on a fully equipped cabinet, hardware units found
inside the RBS 6201 will depend on the RBS type, both
mandatory and optional.

RBS 6201 Types

•Control Base Unit (CBU)- based RBS
•Digital Unit (DU)-based RBS

B Unit (SCU) bus including power to the SAU.

C Power Connection 0–1 A DC or AC interface for the RBS.

Unit (PCU)

D Power Connection 0-1 Connects -48 V DC power from the site batteries
Filter (PCF) ʿ¹ʾ to the BFU. If internal BFU is used, PCF is
positioned on Dʿ²ʾ
E Radio Unit (RU) 1-6 Receives digital data and converts to analog
signal. Also, receives radio signal and converts to
digital signals.
F Power subrack containing the ff.: (for info. on unit locations in the power subrack, see
Non-RF Connections)

Power Distribution 1–2 Distributes -48 V DC power to the units in the

Unit (PDU) RBS.

Support Hub Unit 0–1 Connects peripheral units such as PSUs, PDUs,
(SHU) DUs and the SCU to the EC bus. Required if RBS
is equipped with PSUs.
Power Supply Unit 0-4 Converts incoming voltage to -48 V DC system
(PSU) voltage. Available for 120 – 250 V AC, +24 V DC,
-48 V DC and -60 V DC.

F Power Filter Unit 0 - 1ʿ³ʾ Mandatory for a -48 V DC powered RBS or an

(PFU) AC fed RBS with external battery backup.
Takes care of current ripple generated by RUs
on system voltage -48 V DC.
Power Connection 0-1 Connects -48 V DC power from the site to the
Filter (PCF) busbar.

Battery Fuse Unit 0-1 Supervises, connects and disconnects the

(BFU) battery backup. Can be installed internal or
external.
G Space for optional Space is 4 U high, 19” wide, extends 250mm
transmission behind and 50mm in front of the 19” mounting
equipment rails. There are 40mm spaces for cables at the
front and the rear. 400W is reserved in the
power consumption budget and 240W for heat
dissipation.
H Baseband cassette Contains the ff. boards: CBU (1), ET (0 – 4),
RAX (1 – 6), TX (1 – 2), RUIF (1)

I Connection Field 0-1 See Slide 36

(1) PCF 0202 is used for internal BFU.

(2) Depending on whether the BFU is internal or external, there are two types of PCFs (PCF
0201 and PCF 0202), the PCFs can be positioned in different locations of the RBS.
(3) One PFU can support up to six RUs.
