POT LOCK SYSTEM OPERATION

Note: The numbers in parenthesis correlate to the illustrations on pages 1 & 2, as-well-as the hydraulic
schematic on page 2 of this document.
The operation of the system relies on supplying the pot lock cylinders with pressurized fluid from the main
pump, using a remote load sense signal to the main valve to achieve the desired working pressure.

1. The pressure reducing valve (1) provides the remote “Load Sense Signal” to the "IN" port of the Main
Valve through the pilot control valve (2). This signal will increase the
pump discharge pressure to the level required by the operation of the pot 1
lock cylinders (6).

2. The flow from the main pump will be directed to the cylinders through
the isolation valve (3) and the check valve (10). PRESSURE REDUCING VALVE
(143956)

3. The relief valve (5) protects the piston side of the pot lock cylinders against over-pressurizing.

4. The pot lock control valve (4) allows the cylinders

to cycle the locks. 190310
If the pot lock cylinders are retracted
during loading, the accumulator (7)
will provide pressurized fluid through the check 2
190569
valve (8) to maintain (or reposition) the cylinders in
the locked position.

5. The needle valve (9) allows the accumulator to
bleed-down during maintenance operations.

POT LOCK SOLENOID ARRANGEMENT
Summary of General Operation

LOCKS ENGAGING
To engage the locks the Pot Lock Rocker Switch is toggled to the closed position (the straight line side of
switch pushed in).
At this point the following solenoids are energized: Lock Sol (A), Lock Sol (B).
Lock Sol (A) and Lock Sol (B) will remain energized until the pot lock limit switches make contact
indicating the locks are fully closed.
Lock Sol (C) remains de-energized until the Pot Lock Rocker Switch is toggled to the open position.
LOCKS DISENGAGING
To disengage the locks the Pot Lock Rocker Switch is toggled to the open position (the circle side of the
switch is pushed in).
At this point the following solenoids are energized: Lock Sol (A), Lock Sol (B), Lock Sol (C). Lock Sol
(A) and Lock Sol (B) remain energized for 10 seconds after the Pot Lock Rocker Switch is toggled to the
open position.
Lock Sol (C) remains energized until the Pot Lock Rocker Switch is toggled to the closed position.

In Summary: Lock Sol (A) & Lock Sol (B) allow extra flow from the main hydraulic circuit into the pot
lock hydraulic circuit to speed up the pot lock movements. Pot Lock Sol (C) controls whether the locks are
engaging or disengaging.

TROUBLESHOOTING INFO W/ IQAN MEASURE SCREENS

POT LOCK ROCKER SWITCH (DIGITAL INPUTS MEASURE SCREEN)

When Commanding Pot Locks to Closed this IQAN digital input should be true. Physically, the
rocker switch should be shown with the straight line part of the switch pushed in.
LOCK ROCKER SWITCH SHOWING TRUE WHEN LOCKS COMMANDED TO ENGAGE

When commanding Pot Locks to Open IQAN digital input should be false. Physically, the rocker
switch should be shown with the circle part of the switch pushed in.

LOCK ROCKER SWITCH SHOWING TRUE WHEN LOCKS COMMANDED TO DISENGAGE

If this is incorrect, the wiring between the IQAN system and the pot lock rocker switch is
incorrect.

LEFT LOCK LIMIT SWITCH & RIGHT LOCK LIMIT SWITCH (DIGITAL INPUTS MEASURE SCREEN)
The Left and Right Lock Limit Switches are digital inputs to the IQAN system that signals that
the pot locks are currently engaged. These are based on limit switches physically connected to
the lock structure on the tilt frame. When the locks are engaged, this should be True. When the
locks are disengaged, this should be False. If this is not the case, be sure to check the appropriate
Interlock Switch Setup procedure.

LOCK SOL (A) AND LOCK SOL (B) (CURRENT OUTPUTS MEASURE SCREEN)
These solenoids will always actuate at the same time. They operate together to allow more flow
to the pot lock extend / retract solenoids enabling faster operation of the pot locks.

When the pot locks are commanded closed, these solenoids will be on until the pot lock limit
switches read True meaning that the locks are fully closed.

When the pot locks are commanded open, these solenoids will be on for 10 seconds by default. If
adjusted, this could be set to anything between 1 second to 10 seconds. In order to adjust the time
these solenoids are on, go to the Pot Lock Retract Timer adjust screen and enter 2698. This should
NEVER be changed without first consulting the Electrical Engineering Department.

POT LOCK (C) SOL (CURRENT OUTPUTS MEASURE SCREEN)

This solenoid controls the flow to the hydraulic cylinders that drive the pot locks, therefore con-
trolling whether the pot locks are extending or retracting.

This solenoid controls the extend / retract motion of the pot locks. When the locks are
commanded closed (the Lock Rocker Switch Digital Input Reads True), this solenoid should be
de-energized. This ensures that when the machine is shut off, the locks will stay closed. When
the locks are commanded open, this solenoid should be energized.
