Introduction

In today's fast-paced and globalized world, being able to communicate effectively in

English is no longer just a desirable skill, but a necessity. English has become the global
language of communication, and students who are proficient in this language have a distinct
advantage in the job market and in academia. Among the various English language skills that
students need to acquire, speaking is perhaps the most crucial (Rahman & Mehar Singh, 2020).
Speaking is one of the essential skills in mastering a language. In learning English, students
need to be able to converse fluently in English to communicate effectively. One way to improve
students' speaking skills is through watching English movies for media communication
(Parmawati & Inayah, 2019). In recent years, English movies have become increasingly
popular as a tool for improving students' speaking skills. Many teachers use movies as a
supplementary material in their teaching to provide an engaging and enjoyable way for students
to learn. Watching movies can help students learn new vocabulary, idioms, and phrases. It can
also help them improve their listening skills, pronunciation, and intonation (Sari & Aminatun,
2021). However, the benefits of English movies for students extend far beyond just improving
their language skills. By observing the characters in the movie, students can learn how to
communicate effectively. They can learn how to use body language, facial expressions, and
tone of voice to convey their message. Moreover, movies can provide a context that allows
students to understand how to use the language in real-world situations. By analyzing the plot,
characters, and themes of the movie, students can also develop critical thinking skills
(Puspawati et al., 2021).
