Purpose of the Devices, Recently quality ofthe marine fuel oi is coming down and coarsenese tendency of | the fuel extremely increases. [As the concrete, increasing tendency of viscosity, density, carbon residue, ash content and sludgeis pointed out, Specially the foreign particles in FO (vory hard FCC eatalytic fines in such seoondary processing systom as Fluid Catalytic Cracking processing system of the crude oi, which was developed in the worl) injured the plunger and the berrel of the fuel injection pump, and induced sbnormal wearing at sliding pertion of the piston and the cylinder liner of the diasal engine. ‘And also increase of carbon residue and sludge ‘engine and is one othe factor of burning dey, increase of exhaust gas temperature and increase of black smoke. ‘The other hand recently the marine diesel engine high output, and more compact size, as result comparing with fermer times Aexibility margin for FO is coming down, in other words the engine becomes mare sensitive for FO, each engine makes more sever regulation for property of PO at the turbed combustion of the diesel Improved for high effcieney, engine inlet. ‘The fuel ol refiner [SELECT] ia mainly tobe installed at the downstream side of RO purifier asthe fine filter for FO pre-treatment line ‘Normally, FCC eatalytic fines, hard earbon and sludge in FO is separated by the FO purifier (Genecaly it ia said that 80~8S % of the foreign particles in FO is removed hy the 20 purifier) and the remained particles are separated by TSELECT! or the backup filter at the still more downstream position, and these filter are installed for the purpose to remove the foreign particles by sizo wise separation method without any bad influence forthe engine. FSELECTY is developed beyond common knowledge and with such new idea as _adopting the porous element and the most precise automatic backwashing filter in ‘this industrial word Up to today mote than 600 sets of TSE ECTY were supplied to the big ocean {eoing ships as one ofthe FO pre-treatment Devices. 2. Filtration method (1) Filtration method by the ordinary type filter. ‘The ordinary type iter element is cylindrica shape and composed ofthe eloment ‘material (the notch wire or the bar wire ) and the inside reinforcing material (the punching metal or the wire stick which is winded by the element material In case ofthis eylindrical filter, the following is considered © Bective filtration surface is limited in srea due to the reinforcing material, ‘Which is expanding to outside or to inside. ® During filtration process, the sludge and the foreign particle romain and stick, ‘and are easy to grow up between the one and the other clement material. Cross section dimension ofthe element material (roesing distance of treating oil) is 2o much, and fow sludge accumulates tothe same position and grows up to bridge phenomena (minute particles combine each together and make the bridge), fas result the opening mesh of the clement is choked and filtration area is decrensed. @ The filter element is cylindrical shape and consequently extension of the fltration surface ia limited in area, @ Absolute opening mesh of the wire bar type Gtr element is 40 big, because opening mesh is limited in Bine grade of the mesh hole due to size ofthe knitting wire diameter (30~50 1) and the reinforcing wire bar diameter (100~150 1). © Flow speed has to be increased to ensure big filtration capacity against small filtration area, but high flow speed isnot suitable for fne filtration and not possible tw increase filtration efiione. Ordinary type element =A. => Flow diretion == SS ‘Notch wire Coss setion of the element Ordinary type element :B < Reinforce material of the wire (Wire diameter 100~160.) Wnitted wire bar'30~50u) ‘Coneol Signal (2)Fittration by SELECT Against the cylindrical Slter element, SELECT adopted the porous element plate and has following advantage. @ The plate shape elomente are assembled in multi layers without the invides reinforce material and sufficient filtration area can be provided, ® Cross-section of the element hole is widening toward the end, therefore sticking ofthe sludge is extremely decreased and backwashing efficiency is fine @The plate shape clement has more than 10 times filtration area in comparison with the cylindrical element and flow speed of the treating cil is very low approaching speed of the treating cil to the element surface is about 0.12 ‘mise and pressing force to bring the foreign particles into the eloment hole is very small, and filtration efficiency is good. (Refer to the following picture) ‘The improved element is named as "W type element” Caution for W type cement, 1, Distinetion of inlet or outlet side In case of the new type element, inlet side has 14 bolt holes and outlet Side has 12 bolt holes. ‘A part of thom, Inlet side reinforce plate has the symmetric #3 hole at lop and hottom flange portion.) At assembling work, inlet and outlet direction the most important and ‘maximum cautior is to be taken, 2. Decreasing of the clement number. Thickness of the stainless reinforce plate is 300, and length of the clement box is increased, because of W type element. Therefore to install the B/Box with W type element on the same base plate, 2 sheots of the clement is requited to take out: 2 sheets of the clement is decreased compare with the original number.
