2 INTRODUCTION

This reflective report is divided into two tasks. In task one, I will demonstrate an understanding
of management and leadership that has developed in me as my management leadership skills.
This report will reflect on leadership and management development, different management styles
for strategy and vision, strategic management process, strategic human resource management,
and SWOT. This report will also include a professional development plan and a timeline
outlining my career goals. The strategy will centre on the type of real estate for which I hope to
work in the future. In task 2, this report will provide an evaluation of my contribution to group
activities, with an emphasis on communication, problem/issues encountered, different
approaches to resolving these issues, and what could have been done differently.

3 TASK 1

3.1 REFLECTION ON THE LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT OF MY STRATEGIC DECISION.

Enrolling in this course completely improved my understanding of my career choice: to work in

the real estate industry. As the population grows, so does the real estate industry, which has
become a basic necessity for people. To remain competitive and create a brand image, the real
estate industry requires very insightful knowledge of leadership and management (Amanchukwu,
2015). Businesses such as Nokia and Kodak have studied numerous case studies about how they
failed due to a failure to keep up with changing technology and trends. So the theories presented
in this module have greatly inspired and motivated me to become a better leader and manager in
the real estate industry. Along with inspiration, I have gained knowledge to continue my
development in management and leadership of the business regularly. Task 1 deals with the
various sub-sections I hope to implement in my future career. In addition, I will deal with the
SWOT analysis, as well as my professional development plan and timeline. The PDP will assist
me in having proper guidelines to pursue my career plans as a real estate business owner within a
specific time limit.
3.2 LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT DEVELOPMENT

Before diving into and learning about leadership and management theories in this module, I had
some ideas about how these words are used in business and the charismatic personalities of
business leaders. However, taking this module and studying various theories about leadership
and management development enabled me to gain a broad understanding of the tactics and tips
that I can use in the future to advance my career and business (Hill, 2014).

Leadership management can help me gain basic knowledge about the important aspects of
leadership that will help me achieve the future career goals I have set for myself. The leadership
development theories have enhanced my clear vision for a successful business, and how
leadership management can help me to have a successful business in the future, for example,
learning about teamwork in this module, so helped how much teamwork is important for the
business, it helps to manage time and provide many creative ideas because a whole team works
for the single business to become successful (Stacey, 2012). It also helped me understand the
importance of powerful and unbiased decision-making among workers, such as the different
levels of managers we studied in our module, such as the middle, upper, and lower, to keep them
satisfied, we need to make different unbiased decisions for them to improve their performance
and become more flexible (Bush, 2014). Understanding the personality traits of each employee is
critical for leadership development so that we can make decisions based on their traits. Similarly,
one of the leadership theories I studied was the trait theory, which taught me about the various
characteristics of people. This theory showed that people have different traits and they are very
different from one another we cannot impose the same decisions on everyone it might be good
for someone as per their trait but worst for the other worker, the traits theory help me to know
about the motivation and satisfaction about the people they get based on their traits. It is not
necessary if one person is satisfied and motivated with the decision-making so as other
employees will (Chemers, 2016).

So this theory made me realize that we have to keep a balance between our employees in the real
estate business so that everyone can be satisfied and motivated by my decision-making.
Moreover, this module helped me to deeply understand the difference between the leader and the
manager, as leaders are more influential and have many followers, leaders are more charismatic
in personality and people make them their inspiration (Renz, 2016).
According to the module, the manager is responsible for maintaining checks and balances for all
workplace workflow, and the people who work for them. As a result, management development
is required for the company's improvement and success. According to my research, management
development helps to develop effective managers, who in turn can create a better workplace for
people. Management development will aid in the development of a systematic training process,
which will ultimately assist my employees in gaining skills and abilities and managing the work
in the business effectively and efficiently.

In this module we were provided with some of the recommended reading as well, in which we
studied the types of people in the organization I.e. preventive, and promotion-focused people.
The preventive people are those who are bounded they are not likely to come out of their comfort
zone and ignore the risk of mistakes when fulfilling any assigned tasks, besides, promotion-
focused people are more towards the positivity and create a better working environment, if I take
this example for my future career and business plan for the real estate the preventive people are
those which can create a threat to my business and its growth, but I think with the help of various
training I can enhance the skills and confidence level in them to come out of their comfort zone
because firing such workers can be costly for them and can create tension among other
employees as well (Lussier, 2015). This is how management development should work in my
opinion instead of firing I will try to overcome such people, and enhance their abilities to work
with me. Inspire by the management theories I will focus on being the manager who will
appreciate the promotion-focused people working in my real estate business and will try to
enhance their skills and overcome those factors which make people preventive workers so that I
can eliminate the toxic working environment, and gain the trust of my workers.

3.3 DIFFERENT MANAGEMENT STYLES FOR STRATEGY AND VISION

If I first discuss the strategy and vision, it is something related to the long-term factors of the
business. The vision is the direction that leaders or managers have where they see their business
in future. The leader needs to have a correct vision because this same vision is followed by the
workers as well. Vision helps to develop the foundation of the business and this vision is
followed throughout the journey of the business (Abou Ramadan, 2020). In my opinion, vision is
a very critical thing that has to be developed by the leader but it is tough also to exactly follow
the vision, it is a huge responsibility of the leader to follow and be followed by the workers, as
per my learning vision should be transformed timely so that business strategy can be flexibility
transform as well. The strategy is also based on the vision of the business, and being a leader the
management style should reflect the vision and strategy of the business. The real estate vision
should be high sales with various product offerings, the product should be technologically
compatible to create the brand image. With this vision, strategy has to be similar to a focused
strategy where we highly focus on the vision and try to perform every work as per our vision
(Kirungi, 2023).

Further, this module taught us about different management styles of leaders, autocratic,
democratic, laissez-faire, and transformational. According to my learning, the transformational
leadership style will perfectly go with the vision and strategy of my future career plan which is
being the owner of a real estate business. Because of the changing trends leader will need to
transform the workers in their professional skills to become flexible, but united for the singular
cause to commit their time, energy, and effort. The transformational style will help businesses to
remain competitive in every emerging trend, rather than following the same old rules (Leggett,
2021). This style will help workers to gain more knowledge and skills from time to time, which
will develop their skills also.

3.4 STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT PROCESS

The strategic management process helps to deal with the objectives of the organization, as stated
above about vision, I think the strategic management process helps to develop the vision with
emerging trends and according to the changing needs of the businesses (Fuertes, 2020). Having a
proper strategic management process will help me as guidance. Because being a leader I also
need to have a straight vision which will make me able to deal with the employees as well, I will
be able to make them follow a similar vision. The strategic management process will help to
have a competitive
advantage in all
changing market
trends.
Figure 1https://www.iedunote.com/strategic-management

The above picture gives us a visual explanation of the whole strategic management process,
above we can see the steps of the strategic management process:

Inputs: SWOT plays a significant role in the analysis of the business. It helps to formulate the
input for the strategic management process.

Intermediaries: all the strategies like corporate and business level strategy plays the role of
intermediaries, as we need to evaluate these strategies we change the strategies as per the
ongoing demands, and then implement it.

Outputs: with input and intermediaries we move towards the output all these help to gain a
competitive advantage, and ultimately we move towards profitability.

3.4.1 SWOT analysis

Strengths  Value of investment doubles after some time
 Long-term business
 Quality product
 Newly constructed project
 Wide range of products

Weaknesses  Time taken for construction

 Properties getting expensive
 Inexperienced employees

Opportunity  Increase in housing market growth

 Increasing demand for the real estate
 Increasing numbers of the investors

Threats  Existing competitors

 Instability of economy

3.4.2 Corporate level strategy

Growth: expansion of the business which leads to high sales.

Stability: to keep maintain the business operations based on the vision and strategy

Renewal: keep reviving the business by adding different portfolios and new customers

The SWOT analysis and corporate-level strategy are examples of my future career plan for the
real estate company, with the summation of SWOT analysis and corporate-level strategy I can go
for the strategic management process. SWOT analysis and corporate-level strategy are my main
assumptions about the real estate business which I am showing as an example of the strategic
management process. This module helped me to implement the strategic management process for
my future career role.
3.5 STRATEGIC HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
This module gave me a vast knowledge of human resources. Before, this module I did not have
much idea about the importance of human recourse in any business, but after this module, I got
to know that human resource is a very essential part of the business as it is a living resource and
an important asset of the business (Collins, 2021). Having human resources in business is as
important as keeping them managed. In future, I will need to manage human resources first
instead of only focusing on their performance. Under human resource management, we need to
take decisions which are better for our working teams. Human resources need to keep training,
we need to polish their skills, and abilities to provide better performance and become
competitive. Human resource management is the first step to gaining a competitive advantage
(Hamadamin, 2019).

I have studied the various theories in human resources which are motivation theory and
organization theory. In future, I will be the leader of the real estate business so as per my
understanding motivation theory has to be very important for human resource motivation.
McGregor’s theories x and y is very essential to understand the basic motivation for employees. I
am personally more inclined towards theory Y because nowadays people are more career
oriented and want to have better in future so do I, for that I need to have more motivated and
thrive for success through better performance, similarly in future I need to have those people
who are more like theory Y because such people can be one of the reasons for the successful
business (Iqbal, 2019). But as a future leader, I need to be more concerned about those factors
which can motivate my entire working team like being flexible, work-life balance, training,
better pay, a better working environment, including in decision-making, and eliminating
diversity. All these can be somehow the reasons for the motivation of my future employees
(Bateh, 2013.).

3.6 PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN

Before getting into my career life I have prior plans to do, the only knowledge is not enough for
businesses and jobs nowadays, as per my understanding during this degree I have observed that
practical work throughout education is also very essential. Before getting into practical life and
starting my startup I want to study the real-life cases of big names of real estate companies, how
they reach their maximum success and what are their behind stories. Theories that we are
studying in the module is useful but not as much as we learn from someone’s experience
according to my belief (Carroll, 2014). To become successful we need to think beyond these
theories because of the changing behaviours of the businesses and economy.

3.6.1 Timeline

This timeline is showing all the major ambitions that I have thought to achieve within the 5 years
of my graduation, whereas, I know starting my own company of real estate is not easy but not
impossible, but with maximum funds and stability, I can achieve the aim of being a leader and
manager. My professional development career is all about my learning in future and how I gain
experience from that learning also, but if I have a straight vision to have a real estate business I
can achieve that in my future development plan.

4 TASK 2 EVALUATION OF THE PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

Task 2 is related to my personal experience of what issues I faced during group work, and how I
tried to overcome that issues. In my opinion group work is essential to go for deep research work
because it needs a huge amount of time with various ideas to collect the market research and they
discuss it to reduce the chances of error in collected data. As far as the work is related to the
group it creates ease for students like us, because of the creative ideas and time management.
But, group work and personal attitude can never go parallel, in student life we face many egoistic
issues because most of the students do not like to take orders from their mates, because of the
less age difference, same genders, same class, course, and degree. Similarly, throughout my
group activity journey, I also faced several issues which I will write about in this report ahead,
and how I tried to overcome such issues, and I will also like to link some of the learned theories
in this module on how it helped to overcome with the real-life issue.

4.1 THE HARD THINGS I FACED

While going through the reflection report the hard thing I would say I faced was related to the
strategic management process, it was one of the technical things for me to do and connect it with
my future career role to provide a better example to the reader. Moreover reflecting on the
understanding and knowledge I gained from this module was also somehow tough for me the at
the start but as least it gave me a better experience to further write more reflection reports for
another module, as it helps us to know about the module in our perspective rather than only
knowing the theory traditionally. Different theoretical perspectives were also one of the
challenges for me because every different perspective was changing my opinion at first, but then
I started to analyze the theories as per my future aim of being a leader, manager and owner of the
real estate business. This perspective helped me to complete the reflection report as per my
understanding.

4.2 PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED

In my personal experience, the problems I encounter were communication problems, clashes of

ideas, various suggestions to do a single thing, and lack of task management. Communication
problem was occurring because most of the group members were not cooperating after classes or
university time. After all, every one after leaving was getting busy with their work. Also, we did
not have any proper source through which we could communicate related to our project. Due to
this, we were not able to communicate issues, and solutions with each other and this was also
wasting our time. Further, I faced a problem of less agreeableness because most of us were not
agreeing with a single idea everyone was trying to get their idea proven this was also causing
conflict among us. Because there was not any leader so proper tasks were not assigned to each
group member, group members were doing random things which was overlapping the task, and
wasted our time. All these problems were creating frustration, and aggression among us and this
was only increasing the chances of a conflict.

4.3 SOLUTION TO THE ENCOUNTERED PROBLEMS

As it is essential to have a leader who is more knowledge-oriented and goal-oriented it motivates

the group members to work better (pablo, 2015). The problem was only wasting our time and we
were not able to progress our activity. As this module taught us about the importance of
leadership and management through the theories I understand that we need to handle the
situation otherwise we will never be able to complete the project within the given time. Because
cooperation is the most essential factor in the group activity which will help us to have
exceptional results. First of all, to overcome the communication problem, I made WhatsApp an
official group for our group activities which was a platform for us to communicate easily, in this
way were able to communicate with every group member on a single platform with a single
message. After then, I asked every group meeting to have one meeting for the proper planning of
our group activity what should we do and how. In that meeting, everyone agreed to have one
leader in the group who will assign work to everyone, and I was one to be chosen as the group
leader. Being a leader I know that I have to keep everyone motivated so that they all can perform
well in the group activity. As per the different management styles I tried to adopt the
transformational leadership style and while assigning the different tasks to each member I asked
about their interest and what would they like to do in this activity, and then according to their
preferences I tried to assign the work to every group member, and a letter left all the decision
making on them according to their assigned task. Once they were deciding on anything related to
their work I was just going through their decision or any idea and as per the requirement just
suggested the changes. I realized my group members were feeling very confident while doing
their tasks and they were more motivated to perform the activity, gradually we started to manage
our time within the time. This way we overcome our problems and it automatically decreased the
conflict also. During this time I realized that this module helped to overcome the real solution as
I studied about the theory X and Y this theory made me realise that motivation is also very
important, due to which I tried to keep my group members as motivated as possible for the better
performance and smooth communication.

4.4 WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN DIFFERENTLY

All of us group members were well aware of the various theories which were related to ethics
and ethical behaviours while doing the group activity. These theories have taught us about the
ethical behaviours which needed to be implemented in our practical lives. But, most of us have
mistaken the practical life, we believe practical life is only that life when we are in a job means
professional life. But this is not what it is, during this group activity and the problem we faced I
came to know this is also practical life and it is one of the foundations which has been
developing among us to do group activities tighter, and it will ultimately pay off in our
professional life (Abou Ramadan, 2020). Because when we start our professional life we do not
have any experience, we are hired based on our skills, and most of the time being new we are
judged by the behaviours and ethics we possess during our performance. Being irresponsible at
the start of the group activities led us towards a huge loss of time, which we could have saved.
Making a huge communication gap at first we should have decided about the group outline and
how should we communicate, about the source of communication all these should have saved us
time. But I believed each of us was very irresponsible at first because no one was ready to take
charge or give charge to another group member to initiate the proper group activity (Armstrong,
(2010) ).
4.5 OVERALL EXPERIENCE

Task 1 is about the reflection report about the module theories of leadership and management I
experienced great learning while writing the report, and it enhanced my further learnings about
practical life and how these theories can be useful for our future careers. Moreover, the
professional development plan also helped me to prepare the aims after graduation which will
now I focus more thoroughly to achieve my career role in future. On the other hand, task 2 is
based on my overall experience and evaluation of the group activities, and what problems I
faced. This task was more interesting as I can write about the gaps. This helped me to understand
myself better and I gained experience in doing activities with the group. I also learn about how to
communicate and collaborate with group members, because it is important to keep everyone
motivated while group activity.

5 CONCLUSION

This report comprises two tasks, 1 and 2 both tasks have different requirements in which the first
is about the reflection report, and the second one is the evaluation report about the group activity
and group members. In both tasks, I have mostly discussed my personal experience and personal
learning. Task 1 is more focused on the theories which I have studied throughout my module
linking these with my future career roles, and different cases like strategic management process,
strategic human resources, SWOT analysis etc. also, I have stated my professional development
plan in future and timeline. In the second task, I have written about my personal experience with
the group activity I have stated the problems I encountered during the group activity and what I
did to overcome those problems. I further wrote about what we could have done differently to
perform the group activity.
