Traditional African folklore has been embedded in Caribbean culture for centuries. These stories,
passed down by local culture bearers through orated performances, are designed to explain the
how’s and why’s of our world through the use of ancestral African characters, captivating dialect,
and imagery. How Anansi Spun Madras tells the tale of three very good friends and how pride,
greed, and sloth (laziness) cost them their friendship and nearly cost them their lives. Join us as we
explain how our favorite folk hero and renowned trickster, Anansi the Spider, deceives his friends
Parrot and Tiger and gets in a bind with the local Obeah man. In his own cowardice, Anansi
accidentally creates the beautiful fabric known as madras, used for generations throughout the
Caribbean to create ethnic costumes and décor. This tale will leave you at the edge of your seat
wondering what will happen to our main characters next. Once “duh wheel bends and duh story
ends”, you will walk away with a new perspective on why tigers, birds, and spiders, to this very day,
never seem to get along. In fact, kids and parents alike may even learn a few life lessons along the
way.

This book was amazing! From the storyline/revelation of madras's origins; to the illustration,
and VI terminology detailed throughout the text. It was a beautiful read, and both my son
and I truly enjoyed it.
