II. Executive Summary

The narrative of this report that flow from the part-time job that served as the
On the Job Training at Mary Help of Christians House of Spirituality (Don Bosco
Batulao) have come to present in this executive summary. This internship report
contains XII Chapters in the following order: title page, executive summary,
introduction of the sector or industry, overview of the organization, training program,
insights and analysis, conclusions, recommendations for improvement,
acknowledgement, appendices, reference, and annexes.

Nothing beats the experience as the perfect learning tool. This part time job
served as my stepping stone to pursue my dream to work according to what I really
want to do. This training gave me an inspiration to be more serious and focused in
everything.

Because the organization has trained and qualified staff and they were so
engaged and willing to consult with me, it was a good fit for an internship attachment.
It is led by the rector major and other Salesian priests, as well as the staff and
employees who are in charge of maintaining the sacredness of the site and providing
genuine service to the visitors.

Part-time Job was manipulated by the administrative and accounting

department. They manage to ensure the part-time workers to do their work well and
ensure the trainees to learn on the task and duties given.

The administrative and accounting department have given us the same

assignment and tasks to work to do based on our skills and course. The part-time job
which also serves as the part-timers On the Job Training was the one enrolled
subject of Bachelor of Science in Business Management fourth year students of
Cavite State University- Main Campus during second semester of School Yeas 2021-
2022.
III. Introduction of the Sector or Industry

formation leaders who labour in covenant with God via spiritual direction, education
and retreat services.

A Salesian retreat centre is a centre of popular spirituality, which can be of

considerable importance in evangelization and in the process of education to the faith
of the people and also of the young. It is a Catholic Centre animated by the Salesian

Aside from the retreat house, MHCHS also offers religious weddings, recollections
and other spiritual experiences. The community consists of Salesians and Lay
Mission Partners or the staff. Staffs and Salesians were partners and collaborators in
operating the organization. Because of the several offers of the organization, it also
produces large economic revenue; provide major social capital through participation
in community organizations and citizen’s human capital growth.

During the part-time employment, as a business management student major

in financial management, the part-time employee played a key position in the
company. She was assigned to the accounting department, where her
responsibilities included recording, analysing, creating, and assisting with accounting
reports such as receipts and books. She has contributed to the organization through
the field where she work by recording and computing every financial transaction.
Every spending and transaction within the company is meticulously tracked. Bank
and book transactions are now properly recorded with the help of the accounting
department.
IV. Overview of the Organization

Brief History

Don Bosco Batulao is administered by Salesians of Don Bosco and was

meant to cater for the needs of the Don Bosco schools but later it opened to other
groups such as School Faculties, Staff, Parishes and companies who were in need of
a place to reflect and renew their lives, then opened a new venture with the
construction of the Chapel on the Hill for wedding purposes. Our mission is to provide
material and spiritual resources of the local community especially the young by the
way of scholarships and ministerial services in collaboration with the local church.

Mary Help of Christians House of Spirituality is one of the many branches of

Don Bosco all around the world. The Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB) were now more
than working in 131 countries in the world. As of the latest count, there are now more
than 3,200 schools and more than 592 stand-alone Training Centres in the world.
With a vision of “For the people the Lord sends to us, we, the Salesian
Community, envision Don Bosco Batulao as place for holistic renewal and healing
guided by the Salesian spirit” and a mission of “To provide material and Spiritual
resources to the local community, especially the young, by way of scholarships and
ministerial services in collaboration with the local church”, Don Bosco Batulao
conducts several activities for the benefit of scholars, employees and staff and
likewise nearby communities.

Places in Don Bosco Batulao

Apart from the main chapel, which is known as Chapel on the Hill since it is
situated on top of the hill; there are many modest locations to visit within the area of
the retreat house that will truly captivate the attentions of the guests. Green grasses,
seats and mulberry trees can be found in the Mulberry garden, which can be seen
after entering the retreat house’s main gate. Then there’s Fatima Garden and the
Jubilee Garden, where people can contemplate, it is incredibly quiet, with only the
chirping of the birds to be heard and a closer glimpse of Mount Batulao. The Carlo
Braga Church (old chapel) is located inside the main lobby, the Namuncura Forest
and the Two Pillars are also popular to visitors because of the green grasses and a
beautiful forest. Lastly, there is also a tiny concrete stairs that lead to the garden of
Mary Help of Christians near the convent.

MHCHS is a popular wedding location in addition to mass celebrations
and retreats. The retreat house has two chapels: the Carlo Braga Church (old
chapel), which is located in the main lobby, and the Chapel on the Hill, which is well
known for its location on top of the hill alongside the highway, its circular floor design,
and the tranquillity it provides, not just because of its location but also because of
what you can view through its glass windows, particularly the stunning Mount
Batulao. The bakery shop, souvenir store, and beach house are among the
organization’s other unique services. Cookies, ensaimada, banana muffins,
pandesal, and bibingka are all made in the bakery of the organization. Souvenirs and
religious articles are available for retreatants and guests to buy. Likewise, products
from the bakery shop are sold in order to augment and help students to finish their
schooling with the support of the organization. Retreatants may also use the Don
Bosco Batulao beach house which is located in Lian, Batangas for fellowship and
relaxation.

Competitors

In terms of wedding venues, Don Bosco Batulao faces stiff competition,

especially given its proximity to Tagaytay. Many wedding locations in Tagaytay are
well-known, including Hillcreek Garden, Antonio’s, and Taal Vista Hotel. The San
Antonio de Padua Parish Church in Kaylaway Public Cemetery, Tagaytay – Nasugbu
Highway, Nasugbu, Batangas, is another rival.
Another rival is the Caleruega Church. It is known as one of the most popular
wedding churches in Tagaytay (but located in Nasugbu, Batangas). It is popular
because it is promoted as a place that is close to nature and closer to God. Its
maintained landscape and breath-taking view made up of hills, fields and the Batulao
Mountains captivates every visitor. Like the Don Bosco Batulao, Caleruga Churh is
also known to have a retreat house.

Future Prospects of the Organizations

Even though the company is nearly full and effective in every way and works
smoothly, they still dream of constructing and introducing new plans that will help the
business grow and perform better in the future.
Mary help of Christians House of Spiriuality is a popular choice for couples
planning an intimate wedding. Because there are so many couples who want to get
married on Batulao, couples book their wedding dates a year or two ahead of time.
The management considers and plans to construct their own reception area as a
result of their popularity. MHCHS only provides wedding venues, but they believe
having their own reception room would be a big popular. It will be extremely
beneficial to the organization.

The Salesians are in charge of every Don Bosco setting/branch. The director
of MHCHS Don Bosco Batulao is the highest-ranking official, followed by the
administrator and other salesian priests. Aside from their primary responsibilities,
they are also assigned to events such as weddings, retreats, and scholarships at
MHCHS Don Bosco Batulao.

MHCHS Don Bosco Batulao has three departments: the admin department,
accounting and the human resource department. The administrator runs the admin
department, while the accounting and the human resource department runs by
professional staffs and employees. Other employees help in operating in every
process of the management.

Comments on the Organizational Structure

All personnel are distributed according to their roles under MHCHS’s

organizational structure. They rotate every month. The part-time employees were
sent to the administrative and accounting department’s office, where they were given
work based on their abilities and courses. Employees and staffs executed their jobs
and obligations extremely well. Based on the observations since the part-time
employee joined Don Bosco Batulao as a scholar in Grade 7, over 10 years ago, they
are qualified personnel, perhaps because the community concentrates not only on
their businesses, but also on the actions of their employees in order to ensure that
they do well in their jobs.
V. Training Program

Duties have fulfilled and successfully completed the in the administrative and
accounting department as a part-time employee in Mary Help of Christians House of
Spirituality located at Don Bosco Batulao, Cahil, Calaca, Batangas for the period
cover July 1- November 19, 2021.

Part-time employees started as soon as possible after applying for the

job and passing a brief interview and exam. Ms. Myrna, the head of all Don Bosco
administrative and accounting offices in the Philippines, interviewed them. She
stayed in Batulao for two days to conduct the interview. She introduces the part-time
employees to Ms. Teresa Galve, their teacher for the duration of their employment.
Part-time employees began the following day after the interview. On the first day,
their teacher, Ma’am Teresa Galve, a CPA passer, taught them how to compare
transactions from the book and the bank relevant to receipts and disbursements in
the cash receipt and disbursement records. The teacher went slowly with them
because they were having a hard time understanding things, and bank reconciliation
is a tough process. It is almost a month before they accomplished one fiscal year.
They gave the part-time employees their own fiscal years to finish after a month, and
they never pressured them to finish right away. They analyse the monthly
depreciation charges on institutional properties after recording all transactions
monthly. In their bank reconciliation, they use files and documents such as general
ledgers, receipts, bank and book transactions, and so on.

While learning and understanding their work, they also learned how to
properly arrange files and documents. They find it much easier to locate documents,
receipts, and other information that they needed. There were so many papers that
compiling them one by one took days and weeks. Because there were so many
papers to compile, they could only record the transactions after they had finished
assembling the paperwork.

Because there are three part-time employees, they have been given separate
fiscal years. They began tracking the organization's transactions in 2002 and
continued until 2021. They worked for six days a week and were required to present
their work on the last day of the week. After documenting transactions from the bank
and books through receipts and disbursements, the 12 months of each year must
have a balance total. They only have a limited amount of time to meet their teacher
on the last day, so they must do everything they can to reduce their mistakes for the
entire week so that they can learn other things beside balancing the transactions. To
balance the transactions, they used Excel as their primary tool. On the first and
second days of their work, they only saw their teacher and the head of Don Bosco’s
accounting office in person. Their weekly meeting takes place via Google Meet
because their teacher and the accounting head works in Makati.

Each file or fiscal year of bank reconciliation statement that they

complete weekly and submit to their teacher comprises the following information:
Unadjusted balances (Beginning Balances, Receipts, Disbursements and Journal
Entries), Adjustment Per Bank (Outstanding Checks and Deposit in Transit),
Adjustments Per Book (Unrecorded Disbursements, Unrecorded Receipts, Book
Adjustments, (Debit)/Credit Memo, and Interested Earned, net of tax) and lastly the
Adjusted Balances.

They simply continued doing what they had begun for the past five
months. Their contract expired after the fiscal year 2021 had ended.
VI. Insights and Analysis

During the past year (July – November) the student worked as a part time
employee in Don Bosco Batulao. She worked in their office, in particular the
administrative and accounting department. Upon the completion of her part-time job,
she was very excited to receive an offer to begin a full-time job in the future.

She had actively sought for a part-time job that would provide practical
professional experience in financial management, which was her major subject.
Asking questions and writing everything down were some of the things she learned
from doing the tasks and responsibilities assigned to them; there are a lot of things
they don't fully understand at first, so it's always better to ask questions than to spend
twice as much time doing that work; make suggestions when appropriate; and
connect with as many coworkmates as possible.

Doing bank reconciliation plays a very important and significant role in the
organization; the part-time employees are in-charge of preparing, analysing and
recording all the transactions pertaining to receipts and disbursements of the
organization. The works that have done by them will be a great help in the
organization, it will be a lot easier for Don Bosco Batulao to see visibly the movement
of the transactions pertaining to the finances of the organization.

The whole part-time job experience began with an interview and a short
exam. She was assigned together with two of her schoolmates, three office
secretaries, an accountant which serves as their mentor and the head accountant of
the main office of all the branches of Don Bosco here in the Philippines. Being able to
work side by side with people like them was probably one of the best aspects of the
job. Not only she was able to learn, she has also observed how the organization
operates on a daily basis. They allowed the employees to roam around freely and
express their ideas; there were no dumps throughout their time there, and the
employees had a pleasant attitude.

Don Bosco Batulao was a well-known tourist destination and wedding site in
Tagaytay before the eruption of the Taal Volcano and the Covid-19 pandemic. Most
couples chose the location because it is naturally lovely and serene. The
organization’s and the scholars’ needs are easily met because there are so many
sources: weddings, retreats, and the beach house, plus a bakery and religious store,
as well as donations from various benefactors.
Mary Help of Christians House of Spirituality Don Bosco Batulao is a fantastic
company where everything goes smoothly, but due to the pandemic, they have to let
go some of its employees to whether the crisis. Some responsibilities do not
terminate immediately due to a lack of employees. Another issue we faced during our
part-time employment was a scarcity of office equipment, particularly laptop
computers. Our main demand is that we do our jobs well. As a result, we must devise
strategies for surviving while still performing our duties.
VII. Conclusions

The part-time employment in Don Bosco Batulao allowed the student to gain
numerous new experiences each day. She was exposed to actual office work and
grew acquainted with the documents prepared and used in bank reconciliation, as
well as learning how to operate common office equipment. Apart from that, She has
learned to be more personable and to adjust to her working environment and the
individuals she works with.

Despite the short duration of her part-time employment, it was extremely

beneficial. The training increased her confidence and laid the groundwork for her to
become a good employee in the future. As a Bachelor of Science in Business
Management student, it had a significant impact on the student. She felt completely
rejuvenated. In both deed and speech, she learned to be courteous.

It is also incredibly satisfying to know that you have accomplished something,

and it is much more satisfying when others are proud of what you have
accomplished, as the student experienced during her part-time employment. Apart
from her family and friends, the student felt the organization’s support and confidence
in them. The MHCHS Don Bosco Batulao is not only a successful institution because
of itself, but they also have trained employees. They train and organize every
employee, and the strainee is proud to have worked with them. It inspired her to be
more focused and competitive in whatever she does as a student and as a
professional in the future.

The part-time employment has been really beneficial to the trainee and will
continue to beneficial to her as she continue on her path after college. It offered the
student a taste of the real world- a glimpse of what awaits her after graduation.
VIII. Recommendations for Improvement

Issues are unavoidable. Even if the business performs exceptionally well,

there will always be issues or flaws.
The part-time employees are needed to conclude the fiscal years 2002-2021
in matching the transactions of their bank statements to their general ledger, or
simply the bank reconciliation, during our part-time employment. Professional staff
has provided the student with informative and supporting counsel. Most importantly,
during this 5-month time, she's seen a lot of great and negative things that she'd
want to talk about. First and foremost, the student like to assess the department in
which she worked the administrative and accounting department. The secretaries in
this department are quite pleasant; they always help the part-time employees and are
easy to communicate with. The main issue they’ve had in this department is a lack of
office equipment, particularly computers, and the office is too small, so they’ll have to
find another place to stay because they don’t have a permanent location. There
should be more office equipment in the office in case there are other employees who
will use laptops (at least two or three), and the office should be more roomy so that it
will be easier if there are other employees who will work there.
Almost all organizations have reduced their staff as a result of the pandemic.
It’s because of the crisis’s impact on every company’s financial performance. Mary
Help of Christians House of Spirituality Don Bosco Batulao should strive to allow the
fired employee to work at least once or twice a month so that they can continue to
support themselves.
Despite the fact that there were a number of changes that could be done
during this part-time employment, the student had a great time. It will go down in her
history as one of the most unforgettable periods of her life.
