Dear Dr. Dempsey,
This is to advise you that in accordance with UNC Policy 30.1.2 the University is exercising its option to
iscontinue your “at will” appointment as Dean effective July 14, 2023, As an “at will” employee with
eight years of employment at UNCW, you are entitled to 90-calendar days of notice or commensurate
payment in lieu of notice. The University has elected to pay you for the 90-calendar days commensurate
payment in lieu of notice. This means that you will be paid as if you have remained in the Dean position
until September 24, 2023,
Your last day of work in the Dean of the Watson College of Education position will be July 14, 2023.
Consistent with UNCW Policy 03.220 Separation and Retreat Policy for Senior Academic & Administrative
Officers, the university will review and address your return to a faculty position, provided you indicate an
intention to exercise that right.
