Description of the home

I live in a house, in a village called Abda, which is only 8 kms from Győr.
It is an older house, my father parents’ get built it. But my parents keep renewing it year after
year. The roof was replaced. The house received external insulation. Windows were also
replaced for plastic ones. I live with my parents, my young sister and my grandma. Our house
is located away from the main road.
The house consists of four rooms, two kitchen, a little pantry, two bathroom and two toilet.
Fortunately there is a big garden, in which we have fruit trees and we can grow vegetables.
The transport is very good. The bus and train is very near to our house, but we can’t hear the
noise in our house.
The furniture is not always to my taste, but we have some new pieces which are really good.

My room
Fortunately I have got an own room, so does my sister. My room is not so big, it is
approximatly 10 square metre. My bed is very small, but I love it. In front of my bed there is a
big TV, so I can watch my favourite TV program lying in my bed.
My wall is painted pale green. (a falam halvány zöldre van festve). My floor is covered by
wood mosaics. (parketta) I also have a green rug (szőnyeg)
My window faces to the street, so I can see everybody who passes (elhalad) in front of our
house. There is a short, striped (csíkos) curtanis on my window. I have a wall unit
(szekrénysor) in which I can put my clothes, and I can hang my shirts. On the wall unit you
can find a big mirror, so I can always check my appearance before leaving. I have a huge
writing desk, where all my textbooks can fit. (elférnek a tankönyvek). I think it is a
convenient working place for myself. I also have an electric piano in my room, because I need
to practise for my piano lessons. I have been playing the piano for 8 years.

Kitchen
Our kithen is of medium size but the space is used very efficiently. The kitchen floor is tiled
because it is easy to keep clean. Our kitchen is together with dining room, so you can find a
big dining table with 6 chairs in the middle of the kitchen. There is a cupboard by the wall,
where you can find the plates, the glasses, the mugs (bögre), the cutlery (evőeszköz) like
spoons, forks, knives. We store (tárol) here also the dishes, like saucepan (lábos), frying pan
(palacsinta sütő), bowl (tál), scales (mérleg), corkscrew (dugóhúzó). Next the kitchen
furniture you can find the refrigerator with a small freezer. We decided not to buy a big
freezer because it uses up a lot of electricity, and it needs a lots of splace furthermor it is not
worth keeping meat in it for a long time.
In the kitchen there is a little separate room, where we can actually cook the meals. In this
separate room you can find the sink unit (mosogató), the cooker and the dishwasher
(mosogatógép). We have a gas cooker but hte oven is electric. I think this combination is the
best for cooking and baking. There is also a cupboard as we have a number of small things
that we have to place somewhere in the kitchen. On the shelves there are spices and the
ingredients needed every day for cooking like salt, flour, sugar and cooking oil.
Our kitchen is almost fully fitted with labour saving devices (háztartási gépek). In the kitchen
we have a cooker, a fridge, a toaster, a food processor (konyhai robotgép), a dishwasher, a
micro-wave oven and a deep frier (olaj sütő).

Bathroom
We have a nice large bathroom, in which you can find a big tub with hot and cold running
water. The washbasin is beside the tub (kád) and over the washbasin there is a mirror.
Between the tub and the wash basin there is a towel rack on the wall and a piled bath mat on
the floor. (bolyhos fürdő szőnyeg). The soap dish is ont he hand basin. We keep the washing
machine in one of the corners of the bathroom. You can find the hairdryer in the bath
furniture.
Both the floor and the walls are tiled (csempézve van) to prevent the plaster (vakolat) from
getting wet through the continual splaching (fröcskölés) which inevitably (elkerülhetetlenül)
occurs when you wash.
Ono ne of the bathroom shelves we have toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorants, sprays,
shampoo, bubble-bath, nail brush, and comb.

Egyéb
The vacuum cleaner, the electric iron and power tools are kept in the store room, outside of
the house.
In the house we have a gas-fired central heating.
The walls in our house are almost bare (csupasz). There are just a few pictures on them.
We have nice white swithes on the walls. (kapcsoló) We have a lot of sockets (konnektor) to
plug in all the electric equipment and appliances we use in the houshold.
